Playing CD 1 of 2 the Elgar and Haydn concertos. As ever, Du Pré brings great emotion to the works atop her great technical skills.

HH... What a surprise seeing someone revisiting the dark period of the (Then)trio.

I've always found this album rather uplifting, despite songs like Doubt and The Drowning Man! I found Pornography difficult, and rather lost touch with them after that. The Carnage Visors soundtrack, which accompanied the cassette release, is just great. I saw them live in 81 and they played all 27 minutes of the film before starting their main set - wonderful.

On vinyl from 1970: Van Morrison - "Moondance"

Not a huge fan of some of Van's stuff, but I love this album. Possibly my favourite of his albums.

My favourite album of theirs but it would seem I am in a minority with Hall and Oates themselves not really rating it, although I have never seen any quote to that effect... I really like the spacey rock vibes going on here particularly after the first two tracks that were their singles hits (Don't Change and Why Do Lovers Break Each Other's Hearts?).

Look for Nadia on You tube, give her a chance, very hard for a young talent like this to make it from way down here in NZ.

Thanks for this mention.  Listening to this 12 minute live segment: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lpJ1vU3rAhI at YouTube.  Always enjoy learning of new talent from contributors here at the forum.  I think this lady is quite good.  I appreciate the recommendation.  Thank you.  Jeff A

Lovely Psy-trance when you are in the mood. Simon Posford who is Younger Brother, Hallucinogen and Shpongle really does have the nack of creating dreamy beats, rhythms and Goan-psy that are hard to resist.

Regretably I don't have a huge amount of Ellingtons work so will need to search the above title out. Any other recommendations?

Ewen, there are hundreds of albums but I would recommend:

The Blanton-Webster Band

Far East Suite

Ellington At Newport

Such Sweet Thunder

Ellington Uptown

Black, Brown & Beige

The First Time - The Count Meets The Duke (with Count Basie)

Afro-Bossa

Jazz Party!

The Afro-Eurasian Eclipse

Money Jungle (with Charlie Mingus and Max Roach)

At Duke's Place (with Ella Fitzgerald)

Duke Ellington & John Coltrane

Don't forget "And his mother called him Bill." Another interesting disc is "This one's for Blanton," with Ray Brown on bass. The Blanton Webster years appears as "Never No Lament"  A fun disc is the recording he did with Louis Armstrong, originally on Roulette, with an amazing version of "It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing."

I have few of these titles but the ones I don't have I will listen to
