(1998)

Playing ripped CD1 of 2, a band a got to know and like a couple of years ago. This Amazonian gives a fair summation of this album.

"The Gathering is one of those rare bands that can make an amazing, unforgettable song out of an overused three chord progression- think about Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds or Mazzy Star to get the idea. Clear influences from the glorious 70's trip rock (early Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Tangerine Dream), on one hand, and the late 90's trip hop (particularly Massive Attack's "Mezzanine") on the other are combined seamlessly on this album."

Original  vinyl from box set....

I heard this on Radio 3 last week and thought how wonderful it was, so picked up a used cd on Amazon. It was recorded in 1959 I believe, and the playing and sound are just lovely.

Very nice indeed and he is still "fingering" at the coffee table.

I saw him life for a couple of minutes in between other concerts on the North Sea Jazz Festival - and bought his 1st album to further explore and was heavily dissapointed.... If he hasn't changed it's not my cup of tea.

He has actually 6 albums to his name everyone seems to think his recording career started with Blak and Blu but his first was recorded in 2005 and was entitled Tribute which IMHO wasn't a great album. Though his next 2 Worry No More and 110 aren't bad in places.

All of them are rarer than hens teeth

All this Gary Clark Jr talk has made me dig out this album for playing tonight.

High res download from Qobuz.  Lovely stuff.  Well worth  the 35 minutes download time!

On vinyl from 1986: Bhundu Boys - "Shabini"

I haven't a clue about the lyrics, but I challenge anyone not to be uplifted by this (or indeed any other Bhundu Boys) album.

Simply wonderful!

Official recording, to say he set the house on fire this night would not be an exaggeration. Brilliant gig.
