2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread (and links to previous years) can be found here;

At last, the first time to hear this formally obscure pianist. Just played half of the Italian Year with the Dante Sonata. Very soft sound and great variety of tone. Can really make the piano sing.

Paolo Fresu, trumpet
Tino Tracanna, tenor & soprano sax
Roberto Cipelli, piano
Attilio Zanchi, double bass
Ettore Fioravanti, drums

Vinyl.

The B-52's (1979). On CD from 1987. The band seems confident about the sound they want to create and go full steam after it. A tight, assertive debut album.

Up until this time probably the hardest edged and heaviest of Porcupine Tree albums.

Classic Duke from '56, on expanded 2004 CD reissue. I played bits of this to a mate - mostly unfamiliar with Ellington, and indeed most jazz - last night and he was blown away. So now I'm listening to the whole thing and it is just majestic.

I have been playing this in the car all week..

Which lead to this...

Then this..

and finally this..

WZ should have been better known and lauded in his lifetime for writing some of the funniest rock lyrics of all time alongside some great music...All on CD.

The Duke meets The Bard, on CD:

One of the great 'Ozric albums.
I believe this was the last album with Joie and Merv. They left afterwords to concentrate on their side project Eat Static. A great balance of live band work and programmed tracks. Recommended for people getting into or testing out the Ozric's.
A new purchase on CD: Summer And Smiles of Finland, a compilation of the Helsinki-based Fonal Records. Includes artists such as Shogun Kunitoki, Paavoharju, Islaja, Kiila, Risto, Kemialliset Ystävät, Es, etc

Joe Henderson - State of the Tenor. A classic live trio session at the Village Vanguard. Popped up the car this morning - giving it a run now. CD rip

Abel Ganz, this Scottish Prog' band's self-titled album. They have been around for more than thirty five years but have released very little in the last decade or so. Its good stuff and a return to form, think Canterbury scene Caravan or Camel made ever so slightly heavier in parts.
Lovely-sounding (much better than my US pressing) 1970 Capitol UK first press LP - this is a version of the "Fancy" LP, but with a different track order and two additional songs. Some of Bobbie's best songwriting and singing here:
I'll Never Fall In Love Again
Something In The Way He Moves
Rainmaker
Billy The Kid
Wedding Bell Blues
Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head
Fancy
In The Ghetto
Find 'em, Fool 'em And Forget 'em
Delta Man
He Made A Woman Out Of Me
If You Gotta Make A Fool Of Somebody

Arrived this morning from famous online retailer (ordered from UK site, order came from N.Y. delivered in ten days).
Excellent double CD album, great collection of Mark's hits. Two cd's are not enough to cover marks best tunes.

What's the reproduction quality like? His previous album, Supernova, was bl**dy awful compared to his earlier albums.
