What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XII)

2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread (and links to previous years) can be found here;
Warren Zevon. Bad Luck Streak In Dancing School. On original vinyl from 1980. As ewe indicated above, it's no "Excitable Boy" but still not too shabby an album. "Play It All Night Long" my favorite track with its classic Zevon lyrics.
Michael Stanley "Shadowland"
The Beatles. A Hard Day's Night (1964). On MFSL vinyl from The Collection (1982). In the US, tracks from this album were spread between the United Artist's movie soundtrack and the Capitol Records' LPs "Something New" and "Beatles '65". The MFSL clearly outshines the UA soundtrack and my Apple label "Beatles '65" but is not as far ahead of my circa 1976 orange label "Something New", one of my better sounding Beatles Capitol albums. Still, the MFSL tracks silently, has greater dimension, deeper bottom end, and a cleaner more resolving SQ than "Something New".
Jethro Tull. Thick As A Brick. On original vinyl from 1972. Not one I listen to often, but strikes me as a very well-mixed album. Quite enjoyable this evening.
Gerry Rafferty. City To City. On vinyl from 1978. I've always enjoyed Rafferty and Stealers Wheel but never owned any until my vinyl revival several years ago. A brilliant LP.

A trip through some Don Henley music while celebrating that the rain has relented for the first time in about a week.
Back in black. First spin of an early release of the Doric String Quartet's second volume of Haydn quartets - a doubler with all six op. 76 quartets. The Doric's earlier Op. 20 quartets sweep the field, IMO, so expectations for this one are high.

Found this Canadian band a year or so ago on this forum, to just categorise them as Folk / Americana would be to underplay their music and style, they have a lot going on and its all good.
Very delicate playing...

On the black stuff
A friend introduced me to this album a little while ago and I was sufficiently impressed to buy the CD. I hadn't heard of Beth Nielsen Chapman previously. This is good and I think I'll now explore more of her work.

Haven't played this for a long time. Bought it at a hi-fi show years ago. A treat for jazz fans and top-drawer reproduction quality.
Wanting to post a photo I searched for the album on Amazon to download the image and was flabbergasted to discover that for this XRCD version they want £294 for a copy. Yes, £294!
It's good but not that good.
Not usually into flamenco guitar but this is a great album and I still can't believe that the sound is only made by two although very talented guitarists
Human League Dare and Hysteria. After 32 years I've just realised that Hysteria has the counter-balance to Dare's 'Don't you want me?', entitled 'Don't you know I want you?' Superb quality recordings, and unbelievably loud (and clear) relative to the standard volume setting. Oh the halcyon days of proper vinyl!
Steely Dan - The Royal Scam
Amazing!
