What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XII)

2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread (and links to previous years) can be found here;
The Cranberries, Everbody else is doing it....., does what great music should always do and creates an atmosphere or mood, full of emotion and still sounds great now. Flac via Audirvana/Hugo
Jazz on 3. EST playing Dodge the Dodo at Pizza Express, in one of their early recordings before they started playing bigger venues, according to Jez Nelson.

CD...

Mudcrutch. Eponymous 2LP debut from 2008. I've been on somewhat of a Petty bender lately. This all-analog production is among his best albums.

Robert Plant. Lullaby And The Ceaseless Roar. On CD from 2014. A recent discovery for me. The wonderful MENA + Celtic musical fusions serve Plant's haunting vocals well. A pleasing, etheric, transcendental sound not without some power at times. Trippy yet taut.

Possibly the album that defined the Berlin School sound and one of TD's best.

Pink Floyd. Music From The Film More (1969). On Capitol CD from 1995. Maybe one of the better "lost" movie soundtracks of the 60's. Great experimental music.

That's an interesting one Joe and not one that you see being played much at all. Looking up more details I was surprised to see that it went to No.9 in the UK album charts and No.2 in France. I guess in 1969, and this soundtrack following on from A Saucerful, the public were waking up to PF and starting to buy all they released.

First time I saw E.S.T. was at Pizza Express. It is probably my favourite London venue as you are so close to the musicians (and good pizzas). That night I saw E.S.T. I was a few feet away from Esbjorn playing piano. The gig blew me away. Magic.

A silly reason, I know, but when I settled down with a cup of tea which was in my recently purchased Led Zep I themed mug (HMV do them and others), I thought I'd give the album a play
A nice cuppa and some LZ. How very rock'n'roll, Mike!![]()

Very enjoyable and well put together, Tides of Man describe themselves as being "a progressive rock band gone post-rock instrumental. We're kind of in the middle of an identity crisis, but we're loving it."
On CD:-

I never heard this one Dave and can't get it on Deezer Elite, what do you think of it?
Steve, it's not one of their essential albums, but not bad in parts. Might be worth a punt if you can pick it up at the right price.

Another really enjoyable find on Bandcamp, in the prog rock / post rock style. It continues to amaze me how gems like this can be downloaded for pennies or nothing (should one choose to do so).

"Having started out as a Prog Fan over 40 years ago and lately call myself a serious Post-Rock afficianado.......DTES is one of the first bands that covers both bases for me. Heretics effectively combines both genres key elements for a powerful sonic experience. Vocals are beautiful and haunting in addition to the landscape of sound laid down track by track" - A Bandcamper

Bad day at work - but then this. I would call it sonic nirvana but the recording maybe wasn't live. Irrespective, it floats my boat. On original vinyl and sounds damn fine - the SL cables really help. 11 o'clock on the 552 via Superline and 'not loud' (of course it is
).
