2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread (and links to previous years) can be found here;
Sorry forgot to say this is a great rock album from Sgt Sunshine of Sweden

HDCD - Great SQ
Recorded at the Wiener Musikverein 1997
Donna Summer's Greatest Hits
Dayam She was good, I remember Donna in the discos early 80s. Great voice, she could have gone on to so many things. Then she made that stupid Christian remark and it tanked her career, nobody played her music in the dance places, kind of like Coors beer.
Yes, she is a legend. I particularly like side two from this one.
Stravinsky conducts NYP: Firebird Suie & Le Sacre du Printemp 1946 &1940 recording
This 1954 re-reissue was the second reissue taken down from the original 78 release. The big *marketing* for this album was that the both program fits into one record whereas previous LP reissues needed the both sides of a record. Clearly the previous 1950 reissue sounds a whole lot better without so much compression applied to fit into the one side.
This is the 1950 reissue of Firebird with a tombstone cover. Tape hiss is higher than the 1954 reissue but much better tonal colours and dynamics.
I love Stravinsky's direct no nonsense approach.
In spite this crude recording, astonsihingly a sense of mystery and magic are coming through much more so than newer pristine digital stereo recording.
John Cougar. Eponymous third album (1979). On original vinyl. A tad heavy on bass and percussion and produced with a strong pop feel, Mellencamp's promise as a songwriter is nonetheless evident.

One of the first downloads I bought from Bandcamp and one that I often like to listen to at the start of a weekend. Very good Berlin School ambient electronica with a spacey feel to it.
1st run since I acquired it, first piece sounds promising..
Bruce Springsteen. The Rising. On CD from 2002. As the title indicates a very liberating and uplifting album. Great stuff for these long winter nights.
Sometimes a bit the feel of a power jazz trio, playing also some familiar tunes. It's a very enjoyable album with a nice spacious sound...

It is an excellent album Jeff.
'Electrif Lycanthrope' - Little Feat on Tidal. This must qualify as one of the best 'boots' out there - A great groovy grungy performance. Nice 'real' recording too.

Original vinyl.
Courtesy of Tidal. Not sure I'd actually buy this one.

Best Feat album IMHO.

An album I just couldn't quite get into maybe worth another punt.

Probably influenced by Graemeh's listening above. CD 1 of 2.
...nice. I'll go for that now.

Was at the London gig that provided some of the trax for this. Brilliant gig.

...and of course I should have said the release date was 1977 not '97!
