2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.

This morning I woke up in FF+T mood. Their collection of 13 LPs in the GoodTimeJazz edition has accompanied me for, I believe, 50 years. In half a century I have met a few moments of deep disconcert, and there's not been a single time in my life when listening to The Firehouse Five (plus two) has not brought sunshine again in my heart.

Compilation of some less well known American country / Rock from the 70s.  Tidal.  Well worth a listen.  See review below;

Gillian Welch makes me want to buy an old pickup truck, move to Arkansas, drink moonshine out of a jug and marry my cousin.

Saw this version of King Crimson (with three drummers) late last year and it was quite amazing. One of the concerts from the tour has just been issued....

Melody Gardot, The Currency of Man.  First time I have listened to this artist, saw her recommended on here once or twice and thought I'd try her out.  Chilled and interesting so far, not sure if I will be bored by the end of the album though - very smooth soulful voice.  Qobuz via Audirvana/Hugo

Ed Sheeran, X.  At a time when I constantly moan to my twelve year old son about the quality of modern music this is one of the artists he tells me will be around in years to come, and I believe it because he is brilliant.  Good songwriting, accoustic guitars, good vocals and the odd bit of rap - recommended.  Qobuz via Audirvana/Hugo

This CD arrived this morning, replacing one that had gone missing. It's the 2011 remaster, so fingers crossed.

No. That's Alabama.

Because this was a tip from my son and am trying to believe I'm in my 20's again.

Quite good though and nice to see my son's musical tastes maturing.

 Never been a great fan of his solo stuff but quite enjoy this album simply for the minimal instrumentation and dead pan humour. Mrs Vanderbilt always makes me smile.
