What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XII)

2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread (and links to previous years) can be found here;

Laura Veirs "Year Of Meteors"
Rush, Permanent Waves, a very 'Rush' album if there is such a thing and a pleasure to listen to after all these years. Flac 24/192 via Audirvana/Hugo

A rushed pace or just a slow mood of mine? Your thoughts, Doug?

First listen to this . Tidal

Marc Ford - Holy Ghost. CD rip. Pleasant listening this morning.

Continuing with the mellow mood. CD rip

Blues ain't my thing as a rule ( although I have recently got to liking Gary Clark Jnr Live via Tidal). This one sounds pretty good although I prefer the slower, less "showy" tracks. I'll definitely be playing it again. I'm sure there are many knowledgable blues fans on here who can give a much more qualified verdict. Cheers Nick
Some much needed warmth on a cold Easter Monday ![]()

Some more Pat Metheny - some nice tracks but perhaps too much "noodling" generally on this one. CD rip

In the core I am a fan of older jazz, BeBop, HardBop, Miles, Bill Evans etc
But I am getting into this recent Naim release, she is a jazz singer with a modern twist.
While it's my first time hearing this one, I like it a lot.

To me it's more bluesy rock than straight blues. Two worthwhile cuts (Drive, Livin' Easy). The rest I can live without.

For me it isn't one of his better albums

Original vinyl...
Continuing with Red Garland, pleasant laid back music...

This was recommended by Peet on the live albums thread. The description sounded interesting so I downloaded it. Unlike some of these jazz/classical hybrids, which can be a bit nothingy, this is terrific, with sound quality to die for. And only €10 too.

Some unreconstructed Handel!
The Cuckoo and Nightingale Concerto for Organ and String. Simon Preston with Trevor Pinnock and the English Concert on DG Archiv
Sometimes a recording is nigh flawless, and this is one of those!

Great choice, Tony. I would love to join you, but my turntable has decided only to play through one channel ![]()

Also a great album in spite of the dodgy cover.
