2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.

Sounds interesting Haim. Thanks for the link.

Al Stewart. Year Of The Cat (1979). On Arista reissue vinyl from 1984.

Beck. Sea Change. On CD from 2002. First listen. I'm a big fan of the companion album "Morning Phase" and think I like it better, but this is also very good and highlights the artistry and incredible musical diversity of Beck.

That looks like a fun alternative. My only exposure to reel to reel tape was in the late-70's. My boss for my after school job at a horse boarding farm was a Vietnam vet that had shipped home a bunch of hi-fi gear (speakers likely stuffed with pot). He'd invite me into the house for an occasional listen to LZ, PF, and the like. Best system I had heard at the time though I have absolutely no idea what any of it was. Always fun to watch the VU meters bounce with the music.

The album that really put TD into the spotlight and shot them into the UK album charts.
Not easy to access, but with some beautiful parts, from Bandcamp

Breakfast treat..

Metallica .... And Justice For All. On CD from 1998. My son's CD I give a spin to every now and then - its sold over 9M copies. Good music for its genre and on one hand the speed/attack on the percussion is quite impressive. On the other hand, the net result for me is that the album's sound becomes fatiguing in the end.
Finally having an opportunity to listen in to this material and decide if it's worth while to buy it...

Dark and amusing themes in equal measure and one of those albums that seemed to have singles from it being played on the radio everywhere you went.

CD rip.
Blues and Gospel from the master of cool understated guitar playing.
Find myself coming back to this album again and again.............highly recommended.

The last of their great early albums, on this one they dropped the cellist and violinist going for a more "futuristic" sound without the trademark strings that underpinned their previous records; sounding very good in Hi-Res.

I was looking for something new to listen to after work - like this a lot. Great stripped down production courtesy of Jeff Tweedie. Very nice recommendation! Thanks.

You're right Kev, they were bloody excellent and it must be two or three decades since I gave them a go.
