A couple of weeks ago, I was watching David Bowie on a 1999 episode of VH1 Storytellers. He said that in 1964, Steve Marriott approached him about forming an R&B duo called 'David and Goliath'. Instead, Marriott decided to form his own band. He came up with the band's name for two reasons: 1) they all were short, and had "small faces", and 2) "face" was also used to refer to a well-known English mod at the time.
Thanks for the reminder Steve - time give my copy of Ogden's a spin!

Tragically hip and tragically unrecognised on this side of the pond.
Bare bones minimalism at its best - as it was meant to be heard, on vinyl.

Because I don't like to let a week or two go by without listening to the Ozrics.

Blowing away the end of a working week cobwebs with this - loud.

"Just listen to the twin guitar attack of Green & Kirwan on this and Volumes 2 & 3. "Rattlesnake Shake" is a 25 minute tour de force incorporating "Underway", "Searching for Madge" & "Fighting for Madge" from the Then Play On studio album. There is an edge to the music throughout (Green's imminent departure?). This is the sound of a great live band playing without a safety net." - An Amazonian
