In the mood for some old Genesis and this is one of those good sounding '94 Definitive Edition Remasters.

Their first album after PG departed still very enjoyable and recognisably old style Genesis, hats off to Phil Collins for the vocals.

Rush, 2112, the album that made their career and that gave them the freedom to go where they wanted to with all future albums.  Happy 40th birthday 2112!  24 bit Flac via Audirvana/Hugo

Can't believe it's 40 years since the release of this Rush masterpiece, it was the album that got me into the band and I have been listening to them ever since.

Some trax off the new Eli album due out June

I wasn't sure about this album on my first couple of plays but it is growing on me, especially when I'm in the mood for some slow jazz.

I have always been a big Tull fan. This and Stand Up vie for my favourite. I've had various versions of Benefit since its release.  It's one of those albums with the gift of transportation -  as soon as I hear the intro to With You There To Help Me I'm reminded of the first time I heard the album, having rushed home from the Co-op department store in Portsmouth eager to play my new purchase.  I wasn't disappointed.  And the enjoyment continues to the present day.

Not played this for a while, Original Vinyl

Nick Hopkins's keyboard Is just mesmerising in this album and in particular Angie. A lot of the remaining material ended up on other albums most notably Tattoo You.

On vinyl.  Inspired by the recent posts on the last vinyl bought thread.

With some trepidation I went for this budget re-issue of famous, but controversial recordings of the Beethoven concertos, Ashkenazy's first set. It's indeed a bit of a different animal: Solti plays the CSO to his reputation of energised but foursquare, and with that fierce backdrop, Ashkenazy plays these works as if he's doing Chopin. But these simple descriptions hide a wealth of magical moments and, somehow, performances that both entertain and dig deeper than most - first time, I couldn't stop listening until the final note of the fifth. The 24bit sound is good for its vintage, with a tiny bit but audible pitch fluctuation at times.

Cheers,

EJ

Just completed this Waters trilogy tonight in chronological order, each on original CD. Lyrically, it's heavy stuff to be taken all at once. Musically, I enjoyed all three, KAOS being the most interesting and engaging, showing some some funk and groove. Sonically, the first two are very good while Amused To Death is absolutely outstanding and to me epitomizes the soundstaging and imaging CD replay is capable of.

Faust/Harding/Swedish Radio Symphony: Bartok Violin Concerto No.2  2012 Recording

Faust is excellent at depicting intricate human emotions in the most subtle manners. More interesting to follow than Shaham even a slow segment, there is always a sense of excitement and involvement. Harding’s orchestration is equally expressive and rhythmic. Excellent modern set albeit tone of fiddle is a bit on a thin side for my taste.
