2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.

Elton John. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. On original MCA vinyl from 1973. The art on the trifold album jacket is as enjoyable as the music.

Stray Cats. Built For Speed. On vinyl from 1982. The band's American debut album. Fun rockabilly and great mastering by Wally Traugoutt.

Mary-Chapin Carpenter. Come On Come On. On CD from 1992. (I think there may be a misplaced hyphen on this album cover.) My wife's CD that I gave a previous listen to and was drawn back to. Mary has a lovely voice and I appreciate her singing country sans heavy twang. The faster and moderately-paced tracks really draw me in, the couple of slower melodies less so, but it's a solid album.

My favourite Cara Dillon album from my collection. I find some of the others a bit too folksy at times so tend to pick and choose tracks from those albums but this one always gets a play right through to the end.
Lovely music, fantastic voice and rather easy on the eye too ![]()

A radio programme about an army doctor and his relationship with the title song (he lost his own son) made me dig this out.

Very much like the other releases - not as exciting as the "live" in concert recordings but it is good. Need to play it a few more times
Really like this new recording from Wolfert Brederode

Listened to "One More Goodnight Kiss" last night. It reminded me of the many wonderful GB shows we saw in late 1980's. That was many packs of Marlboros ago, back when he could still hit the high notes. Think I'll spin one of his live records tonight, just for the storytelling. ![]()

I have always seen her name hyphenated that way on anything that appeared to be "official", or so I thought. Having said that, a quick Google and Amazon search shows results of no hyphens anywhere. Found this as a possible explanation:
The hyphen was there to alert the press and the public that her first name was indeed "Mary Chapin" and her last name wasn't "Chapin Carpenter," with or without a hyphen. Like all well-intentioned attempts at clarification, the success rate was outside the margin of error, and the hyphen disappeared.
Another result said that close friends skip the Mary and routinely call her Chapin. A great artist, regardless.

I was listening on Spotify and "Hymns" would not be a favorite release of mine. I love "Poet's Game" and several others. Saw Greg several years ago as co-headliner along with Todd Snider at an outdoor summer series concert at the local zoo. Very good they were. The nearby elephants seemed please, too.
Another run for this on Tidal after picking up Ewemons recommendation yesterday. It's a cracker.

A pretty good attempt by Crippled Black Phoenix to cover Pink Floyd's Echoes. A very brave thing for any band to attempt, its very listenable and pretty darn good, adding in a few minutes cover of Telstar by the Tornados (1962) for some reason but it all works well and I've enjoyed it.
A bit more difficult to appreciate, but at the same time a great album...
