On the contrary this needs no perseverance at all.  Fantastic album. Immediately appealing but with lots of depth.  Bandcamp download.

What an album! Two of soul's most magnificent voices.

Dire Straits, Love Over Gold, I've always been fond of this album, excellent guitar work, lots of mood and only one weakish song on it.  Flac via Audirvana/Hugo

UK first press vinyl from 1971. A lovely quiet, flawless copy of Bobbie's last-ever album I acquired earlier today (thus I now have a complete collection of UK pressings to match my collection of US ones).

Another masterpiece (but a commercial flop), it takes the "Songs of the South" concept album thinking behind The Delta Sweete a step further, with all the songs linked by instrumental interludes. The songs themselves are a patchwork (geddit) of vignettes of Southern life, by turns wistful (the reminscences of a pair of hucksters in "Benjamin")  and witty ("Billy The Kid" repaints the famous outlaw as a modern teenage delinquent, egged on by a TV audience which wants to see him commit crimes so he can then get punished); as well as autobiographical numbers from the singer's storied life.

It demonstrates not just her mastery as a songwriter, but also as a singer. She handles all the genres on display here - folk, country, blues, soul, musical theatre, pop - with complete aplomb.

Patchwork was entirely written and produced by BG, and she co-wrote the arrangements. And painted the cover picture! What a gal!

Fish, Vigil in a Wilderness of Mirrors.  The big man's second best album, in my opionion, behind the recent Feast of Consequences which is a modern day classic.  Includes the brilliant Vigil which is wonderful live and still a regular part of his show.  As different from Marillion as you can get.  Flac via Audirvana/Hugo

Nirvana. Nevermind (1991). On remastered vinyl from 2013. A few times every generation an album comes along that forever alters the musical landscape. This was one of those.
