What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XII)

2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread (and links to previous years) can be found here;

Starting with Schumann's String Quartet No. 1 in A Minor, Op. 41. No 1.
Led Zeppelin - Houses of the Holy
Talking Heads - Remain in Light
Following Kevin's lead, my personal favorite...

1970s United Artists UK press. By any standards, a remarkable debut. Unbelievable intensity, particularly in "You Doo Right" and "Father Cannot Yell"; and again - that drumming! Has there ever been a more expressive drummer than Jaki?

So Tony is it worth it?

I've seen this posted a lot so I'm giving it a go via Tidal. Laid back. Not something I would normally be into but think this could grow on me. I'll have to check out his other offerings too.
North Marine Drive, his debut album from the early 80s is something of a masterpiece. There is a version that includes the Summer Into Winter EP that he did with Robert Wyatt. And then of course, there's the whole catalogue of EBTG albums.
To move away from Can for a bit, here's the first (and so far only) album from a bunch of arty Welsh psychedelicists. Definite Can influence though:

No! Santana's golden age is long gone. It is typical latest Santana though with the unmistakable guitar solos in the same line of Supernatural. I won't be buying it!

Nick, just listened to this on Tidal. As you say, nice, addictive stuff.
The Commune album on vinyl by Sweden's Goat. There is definitely a Can influence here too:

Very early Perahia.

Paul Juon, of Swiss ancestry, wrote a lot of good music, which unfortunately remains largely unknown to this day. CPO has recorded his piano sextet, quintet and quartets, and now arrived at the string quartets. These are Brahmsian works, dense but tuneful, and wonderfully played and recorded. As usual with CPO, no hires available.
Cheers,
EJ

First impressions Tony ? I see it got a decent review in the Guardian . I hope to give it run over the weekend.
I do like it, Nick, and the album makes a lot more sense once you know the story behind the title. I also remember the recording sessions about a year ago. I have not enjoyed much of her latest material, including Let England Shake, but this album is more polished and highly recommended. Have a listen and let me know what you think.
Hmm well.... Given this a couple of plays on Tidal and am finding it hard to get into. Not keen on the production and I can't really latch onto many hooks that make me want to go and play tracks again.
Initially disappointing, as I really like "Let England Shake" & "Stories from the City .." they hooked me straight away and I've played them many times over the years. This seems much more inaccessible.
Probably need to persevere some more.![]()

I know what you mean, Nick. PJ does not do comfy music and she's come a long way since Dry, my favourite album. I never got into LES and I did try. Don't torture yourself: it's only music!![]()
From Bandcamp interesting....

This psychedelic rock with West Coast overtones from the late 60's has become a real favourite. Many thanks to Bruce Woodhouse for introducing it in his best music of 2016 thread. Totally recommended.
