What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XII)

2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread (and links to previous years) can be found here;

John Mellencamp. John Mellencamp. On HDCD from 1998. It took John Cougar 22 years to release an eponymous album using his real name. Great album.

John Mellencamp. Rough Harvest. On HDCD from 1999. A live recording, live in studio takes, and some alternate acoustic pieces of prior releases. Despite the album title, each is well polished. My favorite is the rather triumphant sounding cover of Dylan's "Farewell Angelina"

Stratosfear ~ Tangerine Dream
Some old TD to accompany a beautiful sunny morning. Ripped from a well remastered CD in 1995.
Good start of the morning...

This is really very good, newly released by Hyperion. It's the first in a series of the Sonatas.

Listening to the 16 bit version to determine if it's worthwhile to get the newly offered 24/192 version, as I normally listen to other versions....

Inspired by Joe Rand's current Mellencamp-fest decided to dip my toe in the water as I'm not really familiar with his work. Starting in reverse order of release date, with this one from 2014. Like it a lot on first listen
. Tidal. More exploring to do.

Cleaned on the new Audiodesk RCM, sounding mighty fine:

K, do you intend to clean all your record collection
Have fun with your new toy how about a pic or two.

Hi G
At some point yes - I'll probably do the most played or the dirtiest first of all. Will take some pics shortly...
UK first press. Cleaned up nicely but an RCM can't do much about scratches ![]()

Contain with Fournier, mono recording...

This Analogue Productions mono reissue has always sounded incredible, but after an ultrasonic clean it sounds even better...

The guy who mixed this is an acquaintance of mine. Damn fine it sounds too.

The UK version of the Fancy LP, with two extra tracks and a different running order. This is a first pressing. After an ultrasonic clean, it's like hearing it for the first time.

Sunshine soul on US first press vinyl.

Testing out a few more freshly-cleaned records:

Classic Records 200g reissue, freshly cleaned... wow! ![]()

Listened before to this one...

Continuing with this laid back period of John Coltrane, like this period also while I don't like the completely free period...
