What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XII)

2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread (and links to previous years) can be found here;
Rush, Counterparts, when I first heard this album I was reading the Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan and the music seemed to fit the book to perfection. The book series fizzled out sadly but the album remains atmospheric and a joy to listen to. 24 bit Flac via Audirvana/Hugo

Try Mary Black too......
Thanks for the recommendation, had a brief listen last night and will explore further. Thought she had a lovely voice but not as smooth or effortless as Karen, from what I have heard so far but these things are all subjective and I look forward to listening more
Enjoy Dayjay....No Frontiers is a good cd to start with. As an aside she often tours with Eleanor McEvoy which Graham was listening to above. Not heard that album yet, but she is one talented lady.
Would very much agree that No Frontiers is the album to start with. Still gets a regular play by me and I must have listened to it hundreds of times over the years.
On the touring front, I thought she had stopped now. At least that's what she said when I saw her perform at Guildford last year.
Mike
Sorry Mike I should have posted in the past tense as I had heard that too. I have seen her perform a few times with Eleanor McEvoy but that was some years ago. Music is still as good as good though.

Both on vinyl. Eleanor McEvoy is an analogue recording and mastering. It sounds stunning. The LP comes with the CD too.
Just ordered the Eleanor McEvoy, thanks for the info Graham...

On vinyl...

The Last Shadow Puppets, on vinyl...

45rpm vinyl...

Derek & the Dominos - "The Layla Sessions" - disc 2 Jams I - V

Elliott Smith - "An Introduction To ............."
Beyoncé, Lemonade. I would never have thought I would be listening to one of her albums twice in as many days but this is a modern masterpiece, and unlike much of today's music it is a cohesive album that has structure and mood. I sincerely hope that young people listening get the album thing. Seriously well worth listening to. Tidal via Audirvana/Hugo

Loggins & Messina - "Live - Sittin' In Again At The Santa Barbara Bowl" - dvd audio track

Had a flashback to when I was 16 today.
Tchaikovsky: Jonas Vitaud (piano)
My first listen to Jonas Vitaud and I am impressed. Vitaud keeps his emotion in check and plays with exacting precision. What is the icing on the cake is that he has such a beautiful touch. I wonder what piano he plays on this recording? Probably a Steinway.
The Grande Sonate was never one of my favourite pieces of music and it remained so after the first listen. On the second listen, I am starting to warm up to this piece. Especially the Andante with its sense of Russian melancholy. From here I go directly to October...

...Andante non troppo quasi moderato

Bruce Springsteen. The Rising. On CD from 2002. There's heavy production but with no loss of a visceral and very energetic sound to this album.
During my workout...
