Orchestra Of The Age Of Enlightenment  -  "Bach: Violin Concertos"

To this day, still may favourite recorded set!

ATB from George

Perhaps it be given the honor of first played when the amp arrives.

Dear Jeff,

Following your suggestion the first music through the new set-up was the Concerto in A Minor, BWV 1041, followed by The "Dorishe" Prelude and Fugue, and then the Cantata 147.

I once did a demonstration at home with a NAP 300, and that is the kind of balance the new amp brings. It hardly sounds mono as such. but then good mono never did sound like that pinched narrow sound that is expected. Rather it takes me into the recording studio, which is a rare thing from replay.

Very gratifying. I am so pleased.

Enjoy your "new" system.  Hope it makes all your music wonderful and brings you pleasure every day.  regards, Jeff A

It has been a Bach, Beethoven and Greig evening. Shame that I am tired out!

Could do with a week off to spend more time  with my new time shifter.

This is what I sent to Quad earlier:

This is a great amplifier - at least driving the original ESL!

I am left wondering why anyone ever used transistors apart from these being quite inexpensive.

It is like a time shifter, taking the listener to the actual recording venue as a fortunate guest in the hall, rather than listening to records, ... Incredible ...

In gratitude, George

Inspired by Joe Rand's current Mellencamp-fest decided to dip my toe in the water as I'm not really familiar with his work.  Starting in reverse order of release date, with this one from 2014.   Like it a lot on first listen  .  Tidal.  More exploring to do.

Nick,

Glad to see you're getting inspired with Mellencamp. "Plain Spoken" is a good one, "No Better Than This" a novel departure, maybe akin to Springsteen's "Nebraska". Hope you continue your reverse chronological exploration. Otherwise, the stronger Mellencamp albums I'd point you to are "John Mellencamp" (1998), "Human Wheels" (1993), and his three successive albums "The Lonesome Jubilee" (1987), "Scarecrow" (1985), and "Uh-Huh" (1983). Cheers!

Thanks Joe - these are all available on Tidal - I'll dig them out for a run.   I certainly enjoyed "No Better Than This" yesterday.

Kings of Leon, Only By The Night, the album that broke them to the mainstream in the UK and a great album even if some would argue their older work was more authentic perhaps.  Flac via Audirvana/Hugo

John Martyn - Piece by Piece

A sort of funky late night vibe.

Not one of his best IMHO but contains a few gems.  CD rip.

Kings of Leon, Youth and Young Manhood, a little earlier and a little rockier and it contains Molly's Chamber which is my fave KOL song.  Flac via Audirvana/Hugo

Roland Hanna & George Mraz: Porgy & Bess

On youtube since I don't have $202 to pay for a used copy. Hopefully someone will re-issue it just as it was done in 2015 with the 24 Preludes performed by the same duo. The synergy and interplay here are outstanding. I wonder if anyone on the forum is lucky enough to own this recording.

Bruce Springsteen. The Ghost Of Tom Joad. On CD from 1995. Continuing my Springsteen journey with this mostly acoustic album, akin to "Nebraska" but with a strong socio-political message. The strength is more in the lyrics than the music for me.

A quick thirty minutes with J.J. Cale's second album before heading off to do some chores.
