2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread (and links to previous years) can be found here;
Dylan, The Best of The Cutting Edge 1965-66 on vinyl. Some of the greatest rock 'n' roll ever recorded...

On CD:-

The Very Best of Chris Rea - streaming from the HDX. Difficult to beat a bit of Chris music every now and again. Time to dig out the vinyl I think!!

Staple Singers album entitled Why

(2015)
Very enjoyable instrumental post-rock ambient guitar and synths' album. Relaxing, soothing, dreamy well played tunes. Discovered this week on Bandcamp.

Staple Singers Hampton Jazz Festival 1973. Full concert.

1987 - Original vinyl...
Queued up next

Following the return of one of my back boxes from Salisbury this afternoon I've been playing quite a few albums. This early DS album sounds particularly fine.

One classic Straits album prompted me to reach for another.

2014 - original vinyl...

1979 - original double vinyl...
I'm going through the process of replacing my old favourite vinyl albums with digital, 24-bit if possible, but with some the only choice is CD.
Vangelis "Chariots of Fire" is a Mrs Mike favourite & its only available on CD. I found some complimentary comments re the 25th Anniversary Remaster so bought the CD to rip. And yes it is a lot more listenable than the soft mushy vinyl. Still not the greatest listen in musical terms but a better blast from the past for the old timers & wife's.

"Chess" the original cast recording seems is impossible to find as a CD, let alone a download, only the later & various stage casts are available & only CD or MP3. So I blagged an original cast CD from someone. Funny how I instinctively want to stand up & flip over to side 2 & then change the record to sides 3 & 4 at those subliminal memory points

............. anyhow an evening of 1980's nostalgia beats the hell out of Eurovision ........
........ plus a few glasses of something red from Navara
Playing live in the back of a van. Official recording

Time to chill out a bit after the last two albums and nothing better than this this superb CD(2002) - Streaming - WAV...

Begona Olavide performs numerous medieval works on 7 different psalteries, all of them handcrafted by her husband, world renowned lutier, Carlos Paniagua. Also participating are percussionist Pedro Estevan, J. C. de Mulder and Daniel Carranza collectively on vihuela, barroque guitar and thiorba. Medieval music which is exotic yet modern in feel.

One of the best ever!
Just picked this up today, excellent!

Another excellent album. It's actually an EP, just four songs, but a great listen!
