I don't know. It seemed to fit those years. But if you listen carefully this is one of his records that sized the times instead.

A great record i do always listen with great pleasure to.

Because of your post the other day I listened to this for the first time and enjoyed it enough it is a permanent "favorite" selection on my Spotify account.  So I will be returning to it with some regularity.  Thanks, Gian, this is one of numerous times you have led me in the direction of a "gift" of music.  I appreciate it.  regards, Jeff A

I like this very much, it's refreshing to hear a non piano version...

Pendragon well and truly back on form and with a harder edged prog style than their classic period, it works superbly well.

A bit of easy, nostalgic listening on vinyl. Reminds me of student times in Bristol, working out Al Stewart's songs on acoustic.

Goldie, Timeless via Tidal. I have not heard this in a very long time and had forgotten just how good this album is. I may just order the CD.

Some more excellent (modern) prog rock with a harder metal edge.

Vol 4, Songs of Family from the above excellent box set. I think I play the CDs from this box set more than I do my other SV albums.

Taking a Bowie break tonight...

This is a wonderful album - twelve piece band led by a great pianist at the top of his game:

Rickie Lee Jones. The Magazine. On vinyl from 1984. Not my typical style, but there is a vitality and realism to the sound on this album that makes the music very easy to appreciate.

Kletzki/Philharmonia: Mahler Symphony 4  1957 recording Mono

This was my first exposure to Mahler's music and remembering rather dull.I recall my then low spec Sondek was not tracking this record too well either and thought beautiful packaging but the sound quality is less than stelar. Mahler's 4th is supposed to be the most accessible but I moved on. So far I love the odd number symphonies. ( 1, 5, 7, 9 )

I am giving this record a spin again.
Much more lower noise than I remember and this time its excellent clarity and instrument separation bringing out excellent immediacy and transparency. Massed strings still gets bleached out but the Kandid is doing a great job tracking.

Performance wise, tho I still don't get on with it.
Not as dramatic as others I have heard so far. Straight away there is less of playfulness and child like innocence compared to Mengelberg set. Winds sound a bit sat on rather than showing various emotional states. There are some good spots that I missed in the past; good tension and rhythmic quality in solo violin in 2nd movement. Bu following 'difficult' 3rd movement is rather uneventful. This is like a Mahler without neurosis and depression. So what's left is pretty mundane without some kind of tricks up conductor's sleeve. Emmy loose's voice is nice, tho.

It's a beautifully recorded mono but it's too conservative for my taste. So far I have not hit a jack pot with any of Kletzki's recording to date.

Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers. Playback. On 6 HDCDs from 1995. Popular songs, outtakes, B-sides, and early stuff from the Mudcrutch days. Several recent threads on HDCDs have inspired me to pull this box set off the shelf. The SQ is notably tight and fast on any CDP and becomes bigger and more dimensional on a HDCD capable player. I've always found Petty a stickler for SQ and these discs rival any of his LPs. SQ aside, its simply a great collection of rock music.

The third of the Retrochet trilogy by Michael Neil and Graham Getty. Good Berlin School electronica with layer upon layer of sequencing.

Klemperer/Philharmonia: Mahler Symphony 4  1961 recording Stereo

Only a few years later from Kleztki/Philharmonia recording, EMI producer Walter Legge had Klemperer record the 4th with Philharmonia.

From the first sleigh bell intro, this is much more measured grown up reading. Polished and spacious excellent EMI stereo recording beautifully presented the sound quality holds up today even after 65 years later.

Dare I say lush even. Missing is a bit of playful child like quality.

2nd mvoment gets more outgoing and loosening up but still comparatively the band is keeping tight lipped. Beautiful layered instrumental colours and various vivid winds keep my interest, however. Oddly, his slow section is the shortest amongst others. No weepy sentientaly here. Just a dreamy lullbuy like comfortable tempo. Yet just on the back end he brings in some serious gravitas that gives a tune a lot more to chew on. Schwartzkopf’s voice is illuminating and soft. Perhaps missing a bit of tomboy feel. Bells and winds are beautifully presented mingling with the voice. Surprisingly, this is a very genteel Mahler.
