What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XII)

2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread (and links to previous years) can be found here;
First run of this on Tidal - sounding great and very fresh. Classic "old style" TP.

My first listen to this one (recommended by Kevin-W), just a couple of tracks and enjoying it a lot.
These two before dragging myself out to work...CD

Another first run of a new release on Tidal. Not a Clapton aficionado (gosh that's a difficult word to spell) - but very pleasant listening this morning.

1967 - Mono - Original vinyl...

I listened to 3 songs Tidal had yesterday and looking forward to hearing it all today.

Enjoying this one through Tidal. As a teenager I did not quite 'get' this album. As a result I never bought it or listened to it later on. Now I just clicked it out of curiosity. Hugely enjoying it now, one of their better albums post-Gabriel and obviously influenced by New Wave.
and most surprising, I remembered all the songs. Funny how music form your teenage years is so engrained in your memory.
A very battered old 1957 LP that used to belong to my Dad. Sounding much better (if not exactly silent) after being zapped in the Audiodesk Pro:

Yep it's a real grower Stevee.
I've seen this mentioned a lot - more for its stunning sonics than the performance perhaps, so I thought I'd see what the fuss is about. It's ok, but lacks passion, which for jazz is essential. The way the ambience of the club is captured is amazing nonetheless.

I am a Clapton.............fan!......but so often his recorded material leaves me flat.....as a live musician he's light years ahead of most of his peers........is this worth the cost of the vinyl?
Ah, that's better.

Prompted by Stevee above. On vinyl. Gets better with every listen:

The cost of the 24/192kHz from HRA is £14 & believe me its worth every penny. £25 for a vinyl is up to you (CD is £13.91 from Amazon) ....... Yes I understand the EC "leaves me flat" comment, but I haven't noticed that with this one (only one listen so far)

Hi also have the feeling that this one is better, also only based on one listening session. On Qobuz it's just under 10 euros (with sublime).
I am right now digging a bit deeper into the for me unknown part of EC's music....

The new Tragically Hip due 17th June.
Julia Holter inevitably leads to Kate. This is the UK first vinyl pressing. Back in 1986, when this was released, ~i worked in music retailing. I remember, in the run up to Xmas '86, one of the EMI reps telling me that this album had just become the biggest-selling CD in the company's history, having overtaken DSOTM. I would imagine that record didn't last much longer after that, as CD sales started to explode; and of course, the next year the EMI Beatles on CD campaign started...

This well judged 2012 remaster, playing CD one. No band as far as I know came close to emulating the sound of ELP and of course Nice. What a debut album this was back in day!

I believe he is playing the Cavern in Liverpool soon
Can't find a Liverpool date, though the Blues Explosion tour is visiting both Preston and Newark in June, for those of us "oop North"!
Give me a shout, though, if you do find that Liverpool one.
Dave.
Oops...not done this reply thingy before.
just to say Joe is playing the Cavern Liverpool, 27 June to an invited audience only according to the local Echo and will be inducted into the Cavern Hall of Fame!
David
