2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.

UK vinyl LP from 1990. What a voice she had!

Kevin-W posted:Julia Holter inevitably leads to Kate. This is the UK first vinyl pressing. Back in 1986, when this was released, ~i worked in music retailing. I remember, in the run up to Xmas '86, one of the EMI reps telling me that this album had just become the biggest-selling CD in the company's history, having overtaken DSOTM. I would imagine that record didn't last much longer after that, as CD sales started to explode; and of course, the next year the EMI Beatles on CD campaign started...
One of my all time fave albums

Always loved their twin lead guitar attack, enjoying this one again, from their early and best period pre '75.

Because I fancied a bit more 'Ash after having played Pilgrimage earlier, their debut will do nicely.

1968 Venue #1 is still my favourite of the trilogy so far. I wonder if they are going to release any more. I'm sure the Zappa foundation must have zillion hours of unreleased material.

Recored in happier times in Mali.

Stonking stuff.
I've just bought this, having been without it since selling all my vinyl ten years or so ago. It's a fine album.

What do you think of it? Like you, I really like Kind of Cool.
Wonderful...

This afternoons listening will be the albums below. If you enjoy the jazz subset of be-bop or bop, these may be of interest. This information came to me from the magazine The Absolute Sound. There is a New York City nightclub called Smoke, which features this style of jazz and these artists and others often play there. The people that run Smoke formed a record label and named it Smoke Sessions. These are some of their first releases and after listening previously to one track on each album it appears to be well presented. I am accessing them through Spotify Premium (US) and they may be available on other streaming services.
