What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XII)

2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread (and links to previous years) can be found here;

This one is good too. I like Black Ice but this one is also good. I guess once you gave a formula that works you just keep at it.

Since I have good thing going I might as well continue.

One more. Why not?
From this afternoon.
Nikki Lane - All or Nothin' (2014)

First listen. I like Lindi Ortega, and she came up as a recommendation. Not bad. Have to give it a few listens.
Dori Freeman (2016)

First listen. Felt a little too country-ish when it started, but I soon fell into a groove with the album. Very nice voice.
Andrew Bird - Hands of Glory (2012)

"Are You Serious" was all the way in the car in the garage, so put this one on, since I hadn't listened to it in a while. My house is not that large. It was probably another 10 steps to the car.
Now: The Honey Drewdrops - Tangled Country (2015)

I enjoy this duo so much after first listening to "Silver Lining" that I wound up picking up the rest of their albums.

Interesting recording. Different. Good SQ.
Didn't like packaging, it has 4 CD's and opens N-S-W-E, need a table to open it to extract CDs or booklet. It will not last.

(2012) CD Karen Peris - Violet
Very recent purchase. First listen last night. Karen is from the trio Innocence Mission. First listen felt it ended a bit abruptly, as if it could have another song or two.
Hi Pat, I would not have known her by name but enjoy her voice in the IM releases so will check this out. Ten songs in 20 minutes is an EP length, no wonder it sounded abrupt when over. Thanks. Hope you are doing well. regards, Jeff A
Hi Jeff. Doing well, thank you. I hope you are too. That explains it! I never looked at the total album time.
Makes for a good companion for a quiet/relaxing evening/morning. It sounds very much like the IM, since she is their voice. Never a bad thing, of course. Best regards, Pat

1968 - Original Columbia vinyl...

1997 - CD -WAV

Live recording made in Paris in 1979 with Marc Johnson (bass) and Joe LaBarbera (drums).

Nikki Lane is good. She stopped by the local record store to play a few tunes a while back.

1970 - Original, unperturbed, vinyl...

Joining spurrier sucks' AC/DC party with this classic on vinyl. Got to ask spurrier sucks - have you considered changing your forum id now that Steve's retired? Haven't figured out whether you're a Game Cocks fan that resented Spurrier's coaching or a fan of a SEC rival.
Reliving some 70's prog rock moments...

This sounds different even strange if you would call it like that. The string ensemble is bigger as usual for the Schubert piece so it's a much fuller sound. I think I will have to hear it multiple time to determine if I like this interpretation. As it sounds quite different....

I am not so in booklets - and as I stream, it's a one off opening. But I understand when you have a look at it multiples times that it will be a pain.

Neil Young. Unplugged. On CD from 1993. There's probably not another popular artist more DNA-enabled to give a truly "unplugged" performance. Great song selection and interpretations, and just the right amount of echo ambience to establish a very intimate atmosphere.

King Crimson - In the Wake of Poseidon: Vinyl

Glad you are enjoying it Nick, all four of their albums can be had for a heavily discounted total of €3 at the moment, the other albums are similar in style and very enjoyable too.
Yep - downloaded all of them yesterday - some listening to do ![]()

Not listened to much Monk previously - giving this one a run on Tidal & it's sounding great on a sunny Sunday morning - almost like he is playing in the room. Very nice recommendation Haim.

CD WAV rip. 1st play.
as soon as I heard the overture I can't believe how many times this has been used in the movies.
enjoying it so far!
