(2015)
After a fast start the other day this one continues to grow on further listening.
The music or SQ on this one never fails to impress.

Joshua Redman - "Wish"

McCoy Tyner - "New York Reunion"

All in the family. A Duo and Sonata for cello & violin performed by the Phillips brothers. The youtube is performed by Xavier Phillips and David Grimal.
Borders Nick posted:Haim Ronen posted:Not listened to much Monk previously - giving this one a run on Tidal & it's sounding great on a sunny Sunday morning - almost like he is playing in the room. Very nice recommendation Haim.
Monk made great music. If you feel like exploring him, his recordings Live in the IT Club, Brilliant Corners and Alone in San Francisco are exceptional.

One more. Why not?
Joining spurrier sucks' AC/DC party with this classic on vinyl. Got to ask spurrier sucks - have you considered changing your forum id now that Steve's retired? Haven't figured out whether you're a Game Cocks fan that resented Spurrier's coaching or a fan of a SEC rival.
I didn't know I could change it. Another forum I visit doesn't allow it. Just to keep it consistent I'll keep it, he does still suck, but Muschamp Sucks has a nice ring to it as well.lol I am a Clemson Tiger fan and hater of all things Gamecocks.

Also, try searching on Tidal for "Sphere" (the band name and Monk's middle name). Charlie Rouse on sax, Buster Williams on bass and Ben Riley on drums (all played with Monk) and in Monk's seat the great Kenny Barron on piano. The early albums are tributes to Monk's compositions. And the Esbjorn Svensson Trio also did a disk on Monk music. He was a great composer and artist. regards, Jeff A
note to Haim - if you have time , search Smoke Session Records, I think there is some stuff there you might enjoy.
Bach and the Stile Antico: Fitzwilliam String Quartet | Tom Wilkinson | St Salvator's Chapel Choir - Ars Eloquentice

Room for one more? ![]()
Bach Without Words: Anna Christiane Neumann (piano)
Transcriptions of Bach Chorales and Chorale Preludes

Lovely Sunday afternoon music from Mr L Cohen's singer /collaborator..

CD

Bobby Hutcherson - "Solo/Quartet" - vibraphonist with solo tracks as well as quartet tracks, as the title says.

Nice one, Ewe. Haven't listened to this in ages. Great album.

Changing things up this morning. This thread has led me ways I didn't think I would ever go. Really enjoying brass instuments more and more.
Seasick Steve - Hubcap Music on Vinyl (one of my most recent purchases)

Nick, I should clarify here, if you do search, there are multiple bands with the name Sphere. The one you are looking for has at least one digital release. The others may only be on vinyl.

Available digitally - titled Sphere. and also these two

This is their discography from Wiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sphere_(American_band)

Freire's slightly disappointing nocturnes - when it counts, such as in op.48/2, he limps through, bleeding energy where some of his colleagues, such as Pires, Arrau or Pollini, show how good this music can be.
Followed by a polar opposite: Blechacz' polonaises are driven and powerful, and controversial. Didn't listen to this for years, but it's great. This is one of those performances where the hires edition is much better than the regular CD.
Cheers
EJ

one more Monk recommendation: released under Milt Jackson's name, "Memories of Thelonius Sphere Monk". With Ray Brown on bass, Monty Alexander on piano and Mickey Roker on drums. They were appearing at Ronnie Scott's club in London when they heard about Monk dying. As a tribute, the second set that night (this recording) was dedicated to Monk. The version of 'Round Midnight has Ray Brown on lead playing his bass with a bow. The last 30 seconds of that track will test the bass of your system and is spine-tingling.
Very nice light blues from 1998....CD
