What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XII)

2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread (and links to previous years) can be found here;

Jan Gabarek - "I Took Up The Runes" - never having been there, but to me this is the haunting sounds in the Norwegian mist.

Great album Jeff - hugely atmospheric - bought this when it was released.
Bert Schurink posted:I had this one first, a good album, I enjoy it a lot when I listen to it...
Bert - I'm not a big fan of vocal jazz but my wife recently asked me to play some of his stuff on Tidal after seeing him on tv - and like you I quite enjoy this album.
Still with the blues.........modern Memphis blues and soul.

Quite interesting? It's a wonderful record, though I'm not sure she's as good on the Joanna as this guy...

First Meeting: Milcho Leviev (piano) & Charlie Haden (bass). Recorded in 1985 in California, released only in Japan in 1986. Unfortunately, the youtube album tracks are not available anymore.

Hi Nick, I don't listen to it very often, but it mesmerizes me each time I do.
Continuing with the Gabarek-related material, forever grateful to Fred Simon for this recommend:

Keith Jarrett - "Personal Mountains"
Recommended by David from this parish, interesting on first listen, worth tidaling for the first track Naom Chomsky is a soft revolution alone.

SJB

Nick Brignola - "Like Old Times"

Listening to this now. It's good. Jazz is all new to me but its definitely growing on me.
Over 5 hours worth of Grateful Dead covers. Streaming via Tidal and so far, so good!

Some good stoner rock.

Very nice light blues from 1998....CD
Love this album.........the track "Am I Wrong" has long been a piece of music I use as a test piece for any trial upgrades in the system.
Yep, 'Am I Wrong' is also in my test tracks list. Great album this.

One of the most underrated bands of all time - truly excellent musicians and showmen.

Hey Mark, don't forget about the showlady. She's got a mic and appears to be workin' it. I always enjoyed hearing the Tubes back in the day, mostly second-hand coming from my brother's bedroom.

One more. Why not?
Joining spurrier sucks' AC/DC party with this classic on vinyl. Got to ask spurrier sucks - have you considered changing your forum id now that Steve's retired? Haven't figured out whether you're a Game Cocks fan that resented Spurrier's coaching or a fan of a SEC rival.
I didn't know I could change it. Another forum I visit doesn't allow it. Just to keep it consistent I'll keep it, he does still suck, but Muschamp Sucks has a nice ring to it as well.lol I am a Clemson Tiger fan and hater of all things Gamecocks.
Hah, probably best then you keep your forum id as is. Not sure I want to be replying to a member called Dabo
. A truly exciting championship game this year. Bright future ahead for the Tigers.
As a Buckeyes fan there is a legacy inexorably tied to the Tigers. Are you old enough to remember Woody's infamous punch that ended his career?

Sheryl Crow. Detours. On CD from 2008. A varied mix of musical stylings from folk to pop to ballads. A decent album that starts strong but ends a bit disinteresting for me. Cull a few uninspired tracks from the original 14 and it'd be a better album - 11 are all we expect these days anyway.

Mudcrutch 2. On vinyl from days ago. First listen to this much anticipated release and no disappointment. Not the extended DR of the band's original all analog LP, but nonetheless enjoyable. Despite Petty's undeniable presence, the puppet band manages to capture a signature Mudcrutch sound - warm southern rock sprinkled with folk and lazy psychedelia overtones. Well done.

Probably in my Top Ten albums of all time.
Noteworthy, and a strong statement coming from thou who listens to more albums than I ever thought humanly possible. I'm vaguely familiar with it, but as our tastes often align I'm putting this on my radar of record shop grabs.
During the workout, a good first try from Bandcamp....

The master at work....

I have a kind of ambivalent opinion about her. On the one hand sometimes surprising but very often dissapointing....

Bachman Turner Overdrive. Debut album on original vinyl from 1973. First listen and quite on par with their brilliant "Not Fragile" album.
