What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XII)

2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread (and links to previous years) can be found here;
Another spin for this via Tidal - very enjoyable album.

Supertramp, Crime of the Century, prompted by an earlier post. Flac via Audirvana/Hugo

On vinyl...
Followed by this wonderful album..

On vinyl...
I have started using SPT stylus cleaner and the results making this sound briliant!

Today's arrival:

George Mraz, a native of Czechoslovakia, gives Moravian folk melodies a Jazz rendition. Zuzana Lapcikova does the singing. The youtube track is from their later disc:

The signature voice on Robin Trower's albums for over a decade, he accompanied Maggie Bell for a number of years too, and the Stone the Crows before that. A really good blues rock voice although on this album he covers pop rock numbers. This was to be his only solo album and was produced by Procol Harum's Mathew Fisher. Originally recorded in the late '70s but not released until 1998 a few years before his untimely passing.
"Why this album is so obscure is one of the great mysteries of rock n roll. Dewar sounds at home here with surefooted vocals in what was essentially a record devoted to his family."
Always thought that this was a missed opportunity as I thought the song choice and production did nothing for him.

I can't disagree Ewen, the album's material would have surprised followers of his via Robin Trower (if it had been released in the late seventies) and the fact that it was never released for almost twenty years suggest that others might have thought the same as you.
Ended the evening yesterday with this one. While it's not my type of music, better than I thought...

A bit busy for breakfast....

Brandi Carlile. Eponymous debut on CD from 2005. Brandi's had several brilliant successors to this album, but her original remains my favorite.

Probably in my Top Ten albums of all time.
Noteworthy, and a strong statement coming from thou who listens to more albums than I ever thought humanly possible. I'm vaguely familiar with it, but as our tastes often align I'm putting this on my radar of record shop grabs.
Truely surprised that you have never listened to this album my friend. My wife keeps telling me that if I started playing every disc/download I own starting today I wouldn't manage to finish listening to them all before I push up daisies. She's right.
Right, she's bloody well right, I'm sure
.
Supertramp is a great classic rock band and I've always enjoyed their songs as they come up during my FM radio listening. To me, Roger Hodgson's vocals can quickly become a bit long in the tooth, if not whiney - think "Dreamer" and "It's Raining Again" - hence I've stayed away from their albums, although I do have "Famous Last Words" on vinyl which I rarely play.
On CD:-

Photograph. The Very Best Of Ringo. On 1 CD/ 1DVD from 2007. Giving some love to the world's most affable drummer. When someone mentions "Ringo" no one ever answers "Ringo who?". In retrospect, Starr had quite a successful collection of hits during the 1970's.
I've never owned this, nor had I ever heard it, other than the singles that everyone knows. Now it's 30 years old I thought it was about time...

30 years old???? More like 50!
Sorry, that's what I meant to write. My brain is addled as we've just received the quote for a new kitchen...
This one is nearly 40 years old.

Pleasantly surprised this morning when I found out that I had inadvertantley bought the deluxe version which includes a DVD both enclosed in a hardback book like style. Not bad for sixty three pence (plus delivery) , and it's in as new condition. Sounding good too... ![]()
Bon Jovi, Keep the Faith , background music whilst I work from home. Flac via Audirvana/Hugo
Pat Benetar, In the Heat of the Night, back in 1980 this was one of my test albums when listening to new kit, haven't listened to it in decades and it's funny how dated it sounds now and how much I used to love it as a teenager. Of course this time it isn't vinyl on a Pink Triangle but Flac via Audirvana/hugo

Original Vinyl.
I know they're venerated and held up as icons of the popular music world, but try as I might, they just don't do it for me!! Saw them at Knebworth in 1980, and was so disappointed. I too viewed the album as an obligatory purchase, but might as well not have bothered, as it rarely gets played. Just as well we all have different tastes.
Today's arrival - CD rip. What a great sounding album.

The Infamous Stringdusters - "Let It Go"

Gets better with every listen. And she is touring the UK towards the end of the year.
