What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XII)

2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread (and links to previous years) can be found here;
This is a wonderful album. The sound of the modern cello and the harpsichord are perfectly captured, with the cello sounding really woody. The interplay between the two players is really something. It's probably one of my favourite acquisitions over the last year, and it gets played quite often.

This is the Rovi review, in case it's helpful to anyone.

Neil Young. Dead Man. On CD from 1996. Music adapted from the movie soundtrack with overbubs of poetry read by Johnny Depp and random movie dialog. Young's electric guitar is mostly slow and rambling with heavy reverb and echo in warm tones. Nothing offensive, but nothing overly captivating for an hour's worth of music - although Depp's readings are well done. Best summarized by this review found on Amazon:
Musicologists looking for evidence of Neil Young's connection with the avant-garde likes of Sonic Youth need look no further than this uncompromising soundtrack to Jim Jarmusch's film Dead Man--the first post-punk western to make any sense at all. The music here is scattered and fragmentary, and performed mainly on electric guitar. Though Young's instrumental musings work well in the film, this soundtrack album will be of interest mostly to hardcore Young fanatics (for whom the feedback epic of "Weld" was too brief).

The Sylv's first album, on UK first press vinyl. Hearing familiar albums like this, sounding better than ever before, makes the argument for investing in a top-notch RCM (as I did) even more compelling:

Second time of listening to this album, bought yesterday (on vinyl) and I'm already falling in love. Spiky, propulsive, banging tunes, great backing band, banging tunes, an appealing deadpan delivery... this record's got it all. Barnett's also the best lyricist I've heard since Alex Turner:

Lending this an ear.

Dug this out Tidal - prompted by your post Mike . I only vaguely remember this (apart from the "hits") from back in the day. It's a great album - ordered a CD immediately. ![]()
I don't know how I never explored Fotheringay before. I've enjoyed Fairport and Sandy Denny for years. I've even been drenched at Cropredy on more than one occasion. I am so pleased to have made this discovery. This has been top of my playlist this month.

Another one via Tidal prompted by an earlier post on here. CD also on its way.

Bit of Sabbath for Sunday morning. Still as vibrant as the day I first heard it.
Quadruple vinyl, prompted by Mike's post above:

What a great cover. Not seen it before. Classic Sabbath.

My earlier play of some old Sabbath has whetting my appetite for some more heavy stuff. This much more recent album has some 'balls' alright. ![]()

Followed by more PF.

Listening to this now. I've heard a few of the songs from this but I'm enjoying the rest of it as well.

Seen this one posted a few times. It's a good listen. Gotta love Tom Petty.

I know this one of Beth's has been on here a few times before but thought I would mention it again in case anyone has missed it so far. I am listening to it now (via CD rip but the great deluxe version is on Tidal with some wonderful additional stripped down versions) and it is just wonderful. Bluesy, soulful and occasionally rocky, Ms. Hart has an imperfect but simply gloriously engaging blues voice with intonation and inflection that is encaptivating. By the way, I thouroughly recommend listening to this with the assistance of a couple of glasses of full-bodied Merlot (actually any nice wine will do).
