One Eddi Reader album had to follow another. While Vagabond is good, this one is superb.

Deep Purple - Who Do We Think We Are (Vinyl)

Remided me, just how good Ian Paice is, a drumming tour de force.

Probably, THE greatest rock drummer IMO.

A noisy evening - The Killers Live From The Royal Albert Hall - not a good recording but some great somgs and lots of atmosphere makes it worthwhile, regardless of the quality. After all if we only listen to the good recordings then hifi is being put before the music, which is not a path I ever want to take!

vintage vinyl played today. been an Otis fan since my teenage years. used to play this on very basic 'record players' and recall enjoying it immensely

in fact i have 2 copies -- one of which is very old and is in a very poor state. then a newer one -- but in simulated stereo.so the above is not the exact version i own -- i really ought to get the mono version.

enjoy

Eerie, totally eerie.  I saw this posting as I was listening to this album .. March 1967 tour of Europe, Otis was backed by Booker T. and the MG's and they are superb. The audience play a huge role in this album, they are totally energized and involved in the music.

hmmm... eerie indeed john!

i have LOTS of Otis Redding albums i have acquired over a long period -- they are mostly in the loft -- need to check if they are still OK given the recent scare that the loft may not be the best place to store vinyl. Oh dear...

enjoy

Stevie Ray Vaughan. In Step. Original CD from 1989. Happily added this to my SRV holdings. Tends to the rock side of his blues, mostly upbeat and toe-tapping; however, the final track "Riviera Paradise" is a soulful, trippy journey.

I've heard Hamelin referred to as 'best in music you don't know', which is rather disrespectful, but I've found his best recordings to be indeed on rarer music. This is one of his best IMO where Janacek's concerned. On the overgrown path is like a darker version of Schumann's Waldszenen, and also a superior composition. Schumann's wood scenes are not among his greatest works, but Hamelin's straight-up, efficient performance works really well. Kinderszenen is a bit too upbeat after all the shade that has come before, and here Hamelin is both efficient and highly interventionist; Hamelin gets Schumann's beat and adds some pianistic tricks like delaying the left hand ocassionally, but the way he steps on the breaks at the last notes of some of the miniatures is a bit jarring. However, 'Fast zu Ernst' is magical and by itself worth the price of the disc.

Only discovered this album last year, lovely songs and arrangements, her voice at its soulful best.

I love this album - there are many traits here that evolve into their later albums - really one of the best Pink Floyd albums along with The Wall in my opinion.. and technically I believe one of the first if not the first album recorded in 8 track

The final part of his trilogy.

"Goodbye may, at times, put you in mind of sirens drawing sailors to their downfall, but that's not to say that this isn't an uplifting album. The dissociated vocals are seamlessly combined with fragile chord progressions, tribal rhythms and textured electronic noise to create an album filled with optimism. The two tracks which make up the finale, ''Goodbye'' and ''For Good'', emphasise the message of the album; a valediction at the end of the journey. Hopefully there will be a reprise sometime soon and this is not goodbye, for good". -- Keira Sinclair

Released in 2010 for the 200th anniversary of Chopin's birth, a fascinating selections of homage manifesting the composer's extraordinary influence and legacy. Jonathan Plowright is in his usual excellence in technic and music interpretation.
