Beautifully played and interpreted by HS. He always seems to have such a delicate yet expressive touch. Beautiful music for a yet another lovely sunny morning here.
Mike-B posted:joerand posted:The Beatles. Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967). Another 1987 original issue CD. In this age of loudness and compressed bass this album is a nice reminder of how a tuneful and well-played bass guitar truly sounds, or ought to sound.
Hi Joerand, have you heard the 2009 remaster? I ask because the bass on this is a lot firmer a touch more separated from the mix & is easier to follow Paul's technique. I found it the same on all the 2009 series, especially so with the albums after Sgt Pepper when they had moved on from the old 4 track. These Abbey Road Studio remasters come from the 1st generation master tapes, unlike the 2nd & 3rd generation copies that the original 1987 CD releases came from. The 2009 remasters are easy to spot as they have the Apple logo.
Hi Mike,
Of course I have the 2009 remasters
. You're absolutely right, there is a better quality to the bass guitar on those later remasters, notably on "A Day In The Life" where the bass is cleaner and better defined. Certainly, the 2009's were poured-over with a big budget and every modern digital technology available. The original CD's don't compare for SQ, just fun to revisit them.

The Beatles. Anthology 1. On 2CDs from 1995. There were various releases of "Rarities", "Past Masters", etc in the 1980s but this was the stuff real Beatles aficionados were after. First in a series of three volumes.
This is really rather fine IMO
Sororal harmonies, big wall of sound, lots of things going on. Good stuff.

And just squeezing some of this in
(Before heading off to work
)
