2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread (and links to previous years) can be found here;

Very early field recordings from when he was still McKinley Morganfield....................playing with a borrowed guitar, since he didn't own one at the time!
Essential for any Muddy fans out there.

Neilson Hubbard - "Sing Into Me" (2003)

(2003)
Riverside's very good debut album, their influences Pink Floyd, Porcupine Tree, Marillion and others are plain to hear but they have managed to develop a distinctive sound of their own.

Janis Ian - "Between The Lines" (1975) - Forty years on, this album stands up quite well.

What a great album for a wet, rainy, blustery afternoon .. everyone sounds to be having fun. Or as much fun as anyone could have being incarcerated in Folsom prison.
Earlier: Sarah Jarosz - Build Me Up From Bones

(2013) CD
Now: Warpaint - Warpaint

Some Peter Gabriel to wake things up a bit.....................LOUD! ![]()

That's a great cover. I thought it was a dying art.

One of my favourite more recent "discoveries" Jeff (thanks to joerand), Been playing this a lot over the past couple of months - both in the house and the car. Full of great songs with great production - in particular I think the drumming is tremendous - very inventive and varied.

Complete album, (deluxe edition), now available on Tidal...........woohoo.
This is a superb album. My only gripe is that I had bought the 24 bit standard version before I knew there was a 'Deluxe'. What kind of marketing is this? Now, if I want to have the bonus tracks I will have to spend an additional $27.
Anyway, it's great to hear an old dog do new tricks!

Oops, pressed the wrong button. Just wanted to add that 'Tempest' is now available in 24 bit and I would recommend it. Still waiting for 24 bit versions of 'Modern Times' and 'Together through life'.

I'm still taking this album in, having only picked it up this afternoon on Tidal, but I agree, quite superb................less to do with the lyrics, more the melodies, which , together with spot on production, has resulted in a quite staggering soundscape, something of a departure for Mr Simon.
First run of this on Tidal - live recording from 1989.

On Qobuz the Deluxe Version is also under 14 euros, will have a listen...
Have gotten the 2nd DG box now. This one I already had from an earlier box, I always have found a good access to the approach of Bernstein...

My perspective is that his whole catalog is excellent. "No Better Than This" is a very simple production that is excellent. regards, Jeff A

Yes indeed - the mono recording is very refreshing.
