Tori Amos, Little Earthquakes, because it is a gloriously good album containing Silent All These Years, which is one of my favourite emotional songs and even better with DSD upsampling.  Flac via Audirvana/Hugo

dayjay, how do you go about "switching on" the DSD upsampling in Audirvana? I've looked at my settings audio and filter preferences etc. and must be missing something.

Steve

Steve, it's under the audio filters tab under forced upsampling and there are a number of options you can choose with the first being the DSD bit rate and the second the filter.  After a lot of experimenting I opted for the Type A3 filter. Let me know if you need me to post screen shots.

Thanks DJ, the problem for me seems to be that the DSD radio button (the 6th button) in the Audio Filters > Forced Upsampling section remains greyed out, so there is no option to turn it on or is there? It remains greyed out no matter which button I have chosen.

Hm,  are you using ITunes mode?  I'm not although I don't know if that makes a difference.

I've found the problem DJ. I went to the Audirvana Preferences > Audio System page then checked Native DSD Capability and altered it to DSD over PCM 1.0. That did the trick and the radio button over on the Audio Filters page now ungreyed and I have set it to your current preference of Type 3. Many thanks for the help.

Final question and not wanting to drag this thread off topic any longer, did you choose DSD over PCM 1.0 or DSD over PCM 1.1on the Native DSD Capability < Audio system page?

Are you using USB to connect Steve?

Yes, Using a Vertere USB cable from an MBP, as mentioned above have solved the problem now, thanks very much. I will give it a try and a listen later today.

I'm on DSD over PCM 1.0, although I haven't tried the other option.  Let me know how you get on Steve

I bought this Jerry Joseph album on the basis of Jeff Anderson's recommendation and a quick view of a U-tube guitar solo.  Good reproduction quality. Echoes of Ry Cooder in the vocals, I think.  Anyway, I'm enjoying this so thanks, Jeff.

Conscious Contact is sitting on the table awaiting a play too.

Tis, indeed, Dave.  As the album played on I found I was enjoying it more and more. And a fabulous song, Beautiful Child Of God, to finish with.

2014 - Original vinyl...

Leoncavallo's fifth opera, ZazĂ , is a soapy story about a mistress, who leaves her lover after discovering he is married. The opera was a big success in the early decades of the 20th century, but is now all but forgotten - it lacks Pagliacci's conciseness, dramatic story, and stand out musical moments. However, if you're tuned in to the Verismo period in opera, there are many things to enjoy here - Leoncavallo's music is always instantly recognizable, and if you know Pagliacci, you'll find many echoes here.

Performance and production values of this studio recording are first rate, up to Opera Rara's high standards.

Cheers
