What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XII)

2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread (and links to previous years) can be found here;

Can't go wrong (to say the least) with used copies of the disc (in very good condition) going on Amazon for 1C & 2C.

Whatever you do, don't listen to American Beauty: you'll be hooked for the rest of your life. You've been warned!
Oh dear - that's been added to the playlist for later ......
Ok, just watch out for the foot tapping. Once you start, you won't be able to stop. Good luck!
Nick - I am probably the only person in the observable universe who thinks this, but I find American Beauty overrated - I much prefer its companion album, Workingman's Dead.
You should also check out Blues for Allah (their finest studio work IMO) and the wonderful Anthem of The Sun.
However you must stay away from the live albums. Don't go anywhere Live/Dead, Europe '72 (I and II), Without a Net, Skull & Roses, Sunshine Daydream, the Road Trips series, Dick's Picks, Dave's PIcks etc etc. Once you get sucked into the live Dead experience you'll never get out - more addictive than either nicotine or heroin!
Mono vinyl - sounds amazing after a spin in the RCM. Staggring to think this was recorded on four-track tape almost half a century ago...

1977 - CD - WAV ... Happy birthday, your majesty!
Mono vinyl. When I listen to this, it's always from beginning to end - I don't even skip "Revolution 9".

An enjoyable instrumental guitar based album that on some tracks it seems as if Nashville has been shacking up with seventies psychedelia in San Fransisco. Very different modern americana and an appropriately named album. Thanks to those who have flagged it up here.

DG has - finally - issued Kempff's second Beethoven sonata cycle in high resolution (24/96). Documentation doesn't say if this is the 90s remastering or a new one, and I can't directly compare against the latest CD issue - but, I figured that as I don't have a record player, this may be my best shot of having these famous recordings in anything approaching decent sound.
(I have the first issue, in the blue slipcase with white jewel cases inside, which makes Kempff's grand sound as if it is a small upright, and put me off of Beethoven's sonatas for years, until I discovered Pollini and Kovacevich).
Cheers

Some really nice songs. CD 2 is getting played more than 1, although thats not to say CD 1 isn't excellent.

That's why I got it FC - a forum member recommended it. Plus it was under a tenner!

Thanks to Nick From Suffolk for introducing me to this band. Seriously heavy rock, with a stonking version of The Zep's "No Quarter"
Let me suggest A Perfect Circle also. Enjoy!

Oh, I thought it was you that recomended it.

Worth buying for just for the track "Carry On My Wayward Son"

My favourite Genesis album. I've always particularly liked the way Los Endos reprises the album, leaving the listener with that satisfactory feeling that they've heard the performance reach its intended close.

Thanks chaps - some listening to do. "American Beauty" playing at the moment.

It was Harnoncourt's wish that this performance of the Missa Solemnis, recorded in Graz, be his last issued recording. As it is, we are left with a great performance of a work that is very difficult to bring off live or on record. The live recording is very good and happily isn't overly afflicted by the veil of noise filtering that so often ruins modern live recordings.
Cheers
