What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XII)

2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread (and links to previous years) can be found here;

Justin Currie "Lower Reaches" (2014)

Having mentioned it earlier...

On Vinyl

Howie Day - "Lanterns" (2015)

Maren Morris - "HERO" (2016)

I haven't listened to Annie's distinctive tones for ages. This album has vitality, especially Missionary Man.
TheWho - Face Dances - always think this is the best of the later who albums

Jackson Browne - "Standing In The Breach" (2014)
joerand posted:Wow! Having listened to the forementioned Byrds' album for so long and also being a big Petty fan I'm just now taken aback at how strongly Petty was influenced by Roger McGuinn. Listening to "Mr. Spaceman" you could almost convince me it was Petty singing. Any fan of either band please take a listen to the video and see if you don't agree
.
The first track on Jackson Browne's "Standing In The Breach" is also a good match for that sound as well. Not so much JB's singing but the jingle jangle (the Rickenbacker).

Whatever you do, don't listen to American Beauty: you'll be hooked for the rest of your life. You've been warned!
Oh dear - that's been added to the playlist for later ......
Ok, just watch out for the foot tapping. Once you start, you won't be able to stop. Good luck!
Nick - I am probably the only person in the observable universe who thinks this, but I find American Beauty overrated - I much prefer its companion album, Workingman's Dead.
You should also check out Blues for Allah (their finest studio work IMO) and the wonderful Anthem of The Sun.
However you must stay away from the live albums. Don't go anywhere Live/Dead, Europe '72 (I and II), Without a Net, Skull & Roses, Sunshine Daydream, the Road Trips series, Dick's Picks, Dave's PIcks etc etc. Once you get sucked into the live Dead experience you'll never get out - more addictive than either nicotine or heroin!
Except for Box of Rain, agree about AB vs Workingman

Thanks for that Jeff as she isn't a name I am familiar.
Why? Because it fits my mood.

I never looked that young at the age of twenty-six
. Currently touring with Keith Urban. regards, Jeff A

Adele - "25" (2015)
William Tyler - "Impossible Truth" - Tidal.
Having got hooked by his latest release "Modern Country", giving this one a first run.

Bit of gentle jazz to conclude the evening's listening. This album seems appropriate for the Euros somehow.

Neko Case - "Fox Confessor Brings The Flood" (2006)

The Phoenix Foundation - "Horsepower" (2007)
Elton John, Greatest HIts (his first one) and gosh but it's a great sounding album and the songs are pretty good too! Original vinyl
had this on while i was ironing earlier -- helped me get through it -- been putting it off for sometime :-(

enjoy

I'm listening to the sound of my creaky chair and staring at a button on the iPad app that says 'Reconnect' wondering if I should even bother clicking it because sure enough, within minutes I'll disconnect from that internet radio station again. ![]()
Some 1988 lower frequencies for a low late sunlight, the JJ Johnson Quintet:

Robert Schumann: Ragna Schirmer (piano)
Etudes in Form of Free Variations on A Theme by Beethoven, WoO 31
Symphonic Studies in Form of Variations , Op. 13
I love the Symphonic Etudes and was transfixed by them years ago like every other bit of music that I like but every since owning this CD I can only every remember listening to them once on this disc. The variations on a theme by Beethoven on the other hand I have listened to many hundreds of times. Tonight I listen in desperation tinged with more sadness than usual. The plan was to work on this today at the piano again. It might be two or three years since I last did this so it is definitely time? All week when I wasn't near a piano I thought about this music a lot. There is much competition in my head for the playlist privileges and this is also a constant reminder for what is currently important for me as it leads and directs me to the piano.
The problem - I cannot find my bloody score - a Henle Urtext. Unbelievable. It's in this house. It has to be? After looking for one and a half hours today I give up. Tomorrow I'll either order a new copy and / or call the producers of Buried Alive to come and assist.
