What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XII)

2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread (and links to previous years) can be found here;

James Taylor an official live recording of one his gigs from last year.

Ryan Adams and the Shining from last years tour. Great concert. Official live recording.

Spin Doctors. Pocket Full Of Kryptonite. On CD from 1991. There are three brilliant songs on this debut album. On some listens the other seven seem 'more of the same' filler to me. Tonight I'm finding a nice groove with the entire album. The band really had quite a tight funk to their sound with a subtle blues influence.

Another good find courtesy of the forum, many thanks to Jeff Andersen and MDS (Mike) for highlighting this one. It's made for an interesting and enjoyable Monday morning listening.

Worth buying for just for the track "Carry On My Wayward Son"
Great track I agree, but I enjoy the entire album top to bottom. Probably the one Kansas album to have. Fantastic mainstream progressive rock and the SQ on my vinyl copy is outstanding.

Paul McCartney. Unplugged. On CD from 1991. A truly 'unplugged' performance - no amplification used. Not sure how many other artists in this series actually played by the rules.
Heard this morning Alexandre Tharraud's Scarlatti.....
This is great movie music, to dream with....

Just trying out....

Joe.
Get onto ebay and buy the European version, this includes three bonus live tracks. IMO the bonus tracks are better than the stydio tracks, although "forty or fifty, is also outstanding.
I saw them live at the Manchester Academy many years ago, excellent band.

A good fun jam session where the boys obviously had a lot of fun mucking about. Thanks for flagging it up Tony.

Whatever you do, don't listen to American Beauty: you'll be hooked for the rest of your life. You've been warned!
Oh dear - that's been added to the playlist for later ......
Ok, just watch out for the foot tapping. Once you start, you won't be able to stop. Good luck!
Nick - I am probably the only person in the observable universe who thinks this, but I find American Beauty overrated - I much prefer its companion album, Workingman's Dead.
You should also check out Blues for Allah (their finest studio work IMO) and the wonderful Anthem of The Sun.
However you must stay away from the live albums. Don't go anywhere Live/Dead, Europe '72 (I and II), Without a Net, Skull & Roses, Sunshine Daydream, the Road Trips series, Dick's Picks, Dave's PIcks etc etc. Once you get sucked into the live Dead experience you'll never get out - more addictive than either nicotine or heroin!
Except for Box of Rain, agree about AB vs Workingman
Working Mans Dead is utterly brilliant, the expanded version released years ago on cd is even better. I do agree it is better than American Beauty but that is still a great album. But - don't stay away from the live albums (except the 1990's stuff) some of the best music ever is on these.

I certainly am Jeff, had it on in the car for a couple of hours this afternoon too. Thanks again, Steve.

On original vinyl, mine has a different cover.
Why? Because the album never disappoints.

She drew the gun.
Great new band from Liverpool. Saw them last year supporting Fink on tour.

Yes, excellent album ....

Dipped another toe in the water after listening to American Beauty yesterday. Think I prefer this one. Tidal.

Eurythmics, Touch, a funky 80s blast from the past. I'd forgotten how good this album is. original vinyl
Something more up to date now. Been a while since I played this - lovely SQ. CD rip.

A fine very well recorded album with great dynamic range on original Warner Brothers CD, using it to try and assess the abilities of Audirvana Plus to upsample PCM to DSD.
