What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XII)

2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread (and links to previous years) can be found here;
Another run of this one, so that I really can listen to it...

Joining Apye! with some Ray LaMontagne.
Don't have that one Steve, it's his new one.
I heard the one before it wasn't that good so didn't bother with it.
Do you know how it compares to his earlier albums?
Cheers,
Andy.
Andy, I can offer another input. Both Supernova and Ouroboros are quite different from Ray's releases from "Trouble" through "Gossip In The Grain" and the Pariahs disc. Supernova has some "modern touches" with some electronic bits and Ouroboros to me is much more of a rockin' album. It took me multiple listens to both the newer ones to "connect" with them and what RL has changed for now. I have come to like them very much and just see them as more sides to RL amazing talents. I have been able to explore those with Spotify so my only commitment was the monthly fee. I no longer collect physical media so purchasing them in those formats would be wasted. If you are seeking more of the same of his earlier works, these are not them. But for me they stand very well on their own as part of his catalogue. I usually don't comment on SQ but others have expressed potential disappointment there. I play them quite regularly and enjoy them very much. One person's take. regards, Jeff A

Lightning At The Door ~ All Them Witches
(2016)
More good blue rock wrapped up with stoner and psychedelic overtones, not quite what you might expect for a band originating in Nashville

That guy is wild. Love the live stuff.

Original vinyl - one of my 'crackliest' LPs, but still excellent !

Not sure why but this is the second time I have posted this cover tonight and the last post has disappeared.
Might be the modified content warning
I haven't got round to this one yet. What do you think of it?
The added noises for me detract from the album otherwise it wouldn't be a bad album.

I was playing this only yesterday, can't' seem to get enough of the All Them Witches bluesy, desert, psychedelic stoner rock sound , this one is Dying Surfer Meets His Maker. It's on Tidal or free to listen to on bandcamp
My box of 45s, finally found during the latest expedition to the loft. amazing how good most of them sound, on my new RP3, much better than on my Planar 3/R20 - so much more detail.
But, no reason why anyone here should be interested, just be happy that I've finally found them.

2015 - Original vinyl...

Thanks very much Jeff for your input, it is very helpful.
May give one of them a try on digital media before considering the vinyl copy.
Many thanks to you and Steve. ![]()
