1993 - CD - WAV...

Always had a soft spot for this album .

Original 1994 'braille' case CD brilliant SQ, cannot imagine any future  vinyl re-issue sounding as good as this.

Just finalized this one, a bit more conceptual and less straight forward....

I've been enjoying Black Hill either on their own or with their various guest artists (Scott Snee on this one). Guitar driven ambient, rock and bluesy style on this one. Good stuff and anyone interested can try the whole of the album here.

Cesar Franck: Piano Quintet in f minor, M7

Claude Debussy:  String Quartet in g minor, op 10

Takács Quartet | Marc-André Hamelin (piano)

César Franck:  Prélude, Fugue et Variation, Op. 18 | Prélude, Choral et Fugue, FWV 21 Piano Quintet in f minor, M. 7

Alice Ader (piano) | Ensemble Ader

It is like potato chips.  I bet you can't just listen once.  Starting with Hamelin above and now on to Alice Ader to give a full Franck program.

Every composer has a different effect on me.  Mostly I do not know how to describe the effect in words but in the case of Franck the best I could say is that it is something like a kaleidoscope but not literally what you would imagine.  It simply transports me somewhere whether it is the past or simply just a better place.  Just the opening of the Piano Quintet is clearly not anything that fits in todays modern world.  It is a cry for something more, something better, something unattainable.

Franck wasn't a prolific composer like many with thousands of works in the catalog.  Often the works you hear were written for other instruments and transcribed but music is music.

On a desert island and limited to four works of each composer I would take this recital plus add the Cello Sonata.  Of course I am just kidding.  I'm a completist and would never agree to limiting my musical experiences daily.  All or nothing for me.

Start off this monring with some guitar jazz.

A brilliant album indeed, Ewemon. I didn't discover Emily Remler until it was too late, but I now have all her albums as well as the one she recorded with Larry Coryell. Such a talent. Such a loss. For anyone who really wants to explore her music in greater depth I recommend having a look at allthingsemily dot com.
