What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XII)

2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread (and links to previous years) can be found here;
John Coltrane - The Atlantic Years in Mono, disc 1 of 6. Qobuz 16/44.1 (wrong image at Qobuz?, good price at 17.59 euros for the set). A bit bassy (than I'm used to), but overall better sound than expected!

After a Fourth of July BBQ, the unavoidable BBKing:

Pure nostalgia.

Just a single CD of forty four minutes seems to be the only archived and surviving material from this concert. The sound quality is pretty good on this bootleg and TD's improvisations continue around the themes of their earlier albums. Performed by Edgar Froese, Chris Franke and Peter Baumann.
During workout, remindes me off Led Zeppeling and A-C/DC in a way...

During breakfast..., just realized that I didn't download the 192 version, so I will still correct that later...

First couple of albums this morning.

The completion of Brautigam's Mozart concerto series. A sound that you have to get used to, but very rewarding performances. That goes for the series in general, because even Brautigam cannot make these early transcriptions by Mozart (he was around 11) sound more interesting than they are IMO.
cheers

Pink Floyd. Music From The Film More (1969). On original CD from 1995. Seeing all the recent posts of the new vinyl inspired me to play this gem. Engrossing vibe to the music with Syd's influence still obvious.

Edit to my previous post, there are in fact 2 Discs worth of material from this concert totalling an hour and fifty five minutes, now playing my re-discovered Disc 2 which is seventy minutes long in three parts. I've edited and sorted the metadata for this one. ![]()

1977 - Original album. After this one and Heavy Horses it all went down hill as far as Im concerned. I have never enjoyed any of their albums since.
Broadsword and the Beast and Storm Watch are pretty decent.
I only have a couple more of the later ones, they don't get played very often.
Yes, I also have those albums and can't remember last time I played them just like Crest of a Knave which was the last JT album that I bought. I just gave up after that.
Still, we have a few good ones to keeps us going, don't we?![]()

For some reason this album escaped me, but having treated myself to a download (the CDs are very expensive) it's gone up to near the top of my "Best of Van" list. Brilliant.
Jethro Tull - Broadsword and the Beast
A bit challenging music...

I have just picked up the Nadide Beiler cd (secondhand) that has her entry for the Austrian entry in the Eurovision song contest a couple of years back. The song was 'The secret is love' and I still think she was the best singer and had the best song on the night. Not too sure about the rest of the album as its a little too discoee for me but that one song makes the album worth having and it has some serious bass to test my systems lower frequencies too.

Haken's latest and it has a flavour of the eighties to it, a good modern take on earlier styles of prog rock from this London band.

Due out August.

Just finished: Patti Smith (L) - "Horses" (1975)
Next: Rosanne Cash (R) - "Interiors" (2005)

Think this may have been a recommendation from Ewemon sometime ago.. Nice CD

Fink - "Hard Believer" (2014)
1995 - Tidal...
The Ovators needed some exercise and this is a great album to do it. Although I've got it on vinyl, it pains me to say that the CD sounds a lot more revealing and punchier. Not bad on Tidal either.

Shame he hasn't done anything solo since this and I wasn't keen on his last project the name of which has escaped me for the moment.

(1980)
Not his best album but I have a lot of good memories associated with this album which is why its just about to get played.
Laid back blues, with, of course, great slide guitar.
