2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.

Grandeur and stately but I can feel the strength and solidity than *pretty* Karajan or weak Levi set. Slow start but JB builds up the excitement nicely. Much better tension management. It’s a bit swash buckling but given its nationalistic undertone, it’s ok. This is a straight forward but strong honest rendition. Even the hymn does not get too sentimental keeping a stoic attitude to the finale.

Like you I don't really care for the Karajan version, which I find too polite. The other version I have is Kurt Sanderling's, and I find it more interesting to listen to.
Plus the box set includes the symphonies at an attractive price.

Very enjoyable prog rock from Rick Miller who says "The music is soft, dark and melancholy because that's the way I like it. So if you like your Prog Rock with lots of jazz fusion or heavy metal in it, you may not find what you're looking for here. I hope you enjoy.. and thanks for listening".

I was contemplating the vinyl box set ($90 in the US ), but my son preempted that by gifting me the 2 CD version for my birthday. Lots of overlap with the vinyl "This Note's For You" (which has some amazing sub-bass). I found the additional tracks more of the same so I'll sit pat. Great sound from Neil though.

Nice early stuff if you're a Joe Walsh fan and the band shows an interesting, perhaps eclectic, perhaps rambling fusion of varied musical influences. Rather a lost gem of an album?
Breakfast treat, just got the whole DG collection..
Before I listened during my workout to this very interesting album.
Blackstar - Vinyl. Finally got round to playing this. Couldn't bring myself to play it as it arrived same morning as Bowie's death was announced.
All in all its a fitting epitaph. Much better than Next Day. Side 1 is superb. Not so keen on the reworked version of Sue. Preferred the original from the 12" single.
Not mad on Girl Loves either but the last 2 tracks on Side2 excellent also.

ClaudeP,
Sanderling set, indeed could be interesting. Thanks for your recommendation!
I don't have many Sibelius' work and I also need to listen to a few Finish conductor ( Vanska, Salonen, Berglund, Segerstam et all ) to see how they do their fellow Finns' work.
Paul McCartney. Chaos And Creation In The Backyard. On CD from 2005. Wow, 10 years gone by since this release. Time flies! Readily among Paul's best albums. There was an online petition to get this re-released on vinyl. Hope it happens soon.

Middle of the road shoegazing stuff but pleasant enough.

I have listened to it. It's kind of interesting, but it doesn't immediately appeal to me enough to pull the trigger. I will keep on listening though.

Having enjoyed Engineers more than I remembered am giving their preceding EP a whirl.

Roll The Bones by Shakey Graves
Really catchy music, stripped back alternative country, blues, americana, using just acoustic guitar, banjo occasional harmonica and vocals.

I usually find that those albums which don't appeal immediately turn out to be those with long lasting appeal.

Definitely my favourite recording of Sarah, captures the magic of her music at that time perfectly
Rickie Lee Jones "The Evening Of My Best Day"

Yes very true. I still remember in my young years how my brother was raving about the Wall from Pink Floyd and how I didn't understand it (my taste of those days was more Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Rush....). As he insisted so much I kept on running it for multiple times and after quite a number of rounds I started liking it and I still appreciate it while it's not in my top 10.
Again listened to this, while he wasn't my favorite artist this is an interesting album..
Jenny Ritter - raised by wolves. Saw her supporting Lucinda Williams in Glasgow last night as part of the Celtic Connections festival - very good band. BTW Lucinda was absolutely stunning ! Cd rip.

Just EP length but it gives a good idea of what this band are about, playing in americana swamp music style with great beats.
Neilson Hubbard "Why Men Fail"
One of my favourite Santana albums bought with pocket money as a teenager.
First listen to high res album. Good way to break in new amp.
