2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread (and links to previous years) can be found here;
Steely Dan - The Royal Scam
Streaming | Transcoded DSD

(2007)
Prompted by BigH47 some Nightwish and their symphonic heavy rock, lovely massed choral sounds too, great stuff when you are in the mood.

On Tidal - to see if I should buy...
Talk Talk - the Colour of Spring (and everyone is out...so just cranked up Living In Another World

Steve Earle - Train A Comin'
Jethro Tull - A Passion Play

Special to hear Goerne with string quartet...

Sheryl Crow, Tuesday Night Music Club, can't remember the last time I listened to this and it's just as good as I remember and full of great memories. Flac via Audirvana/Hugo

John Mellencamp. Plain Spoken. On vinyl from 2014. Laid back American rock with some mellow, tubey electric guitar sounds. Well suited to the vinyl format.
Love this album - one of my most-played of recent months after picking it up from your Mellencamp-fest some time ago . I've sampled quite a few of his others since then but haven't found one that I like anywhere near as much - so far ..... (lots to listen to though). Cheers N.

. Added to favourites for a proper listen later. Good shout . Cheers. N.
If you were trapped on a deserted island with a single Jazz song, Naima would be a good one. I have a see-thru clear vinyl copy of Giant Steps. Turns out Giant Steps is actually very complex and deep...my cousin told me this; his parents are both professional symphony musicians. Here is a PDF that reads like a research paper about Giant Steps: http://danadler.com/misc/Cycles.pdf
Never knew about "Coltrane Changes" but this is fascinating stuff:
"In jazz harmony, the Coltrane changes (Coltrane Matrix or cycle, also known as chromatic third relations and multi-tonic changes) are a harmonic progression variation using substitute chords over common jazz chord progressions."And I thought it was just a guy blowing on a horn.
That's some in-depth article SNAIC - if only I had some musical knowledge perhaps I could better understand it
Great music whatever "method" Coltrane was using, consciously or otherwise.
Tidal

Fleetwood Mac, The Best of Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac, and why not? Flac via Audirvana/Hugo
Wishbone Ash, The Living Proof, just for The King Will Come which is quite possibly my favourite live recording ever, utterly awesome song. Flac via Audirvana/Hugo
Last album of the night, or probably half an album anyway, Tori Amos, Little Earthquakes, I'm not sure she ever bettered this for me to be honest. Flac via Audirvana/Hugo

Paul Simon. Eponymous solo debut (1972) on 2014 remastered vinyl.

Steely Dan. Countdown To Ecstasy. On original vinyl from 1973. Talked to a friend recently who was entirely impressed with the SQ of the hi-res download of this album. Thought I'd give the real thing a spin
.

Amy Winehouse. Back To Black. On original US vinyl from 2006. Swanky and smoky. Appropriate music for those indulging in the "What Booze are you drinking now?" thread.
Just re-release Atom Heart Mother vinyl already!
