2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread (and links to previous years) can be found here;

Pete Yorn - "Arranging Time" (2016)

Grateful Dead. "Skull & Roses". An early vinyl pressing on the Warner Brothers green label from 1971. A gift to me from a forum friend that read I was interesting in increasing my exposure to the Dead. Great music on first listen and the SQ is excellent.
April, 1971, was a really good time period for the Dead, and S&R is a fine introduction to their live music. Great versions of Bertha, The Other One and Wharf Rat (a song which, to this day, still evokes very strong feelings for me).
Glad to hear you are enjoying it Randy!

Steve: Purely intrigued by the cover and your implied recommendation I bought this album .. a great addition to my collection .. a band I hadn't heard of before .. certainly they are multi faceted, and I shall be researching more about them .. "Black Coffee" is a keeper. Thank you.
John
Hi John, I'm glad the musical punt that you took worked out. No words from me about it because I was actually listening to it for the first time, I should have stated that when I posted. I agree with you its good and I'm sure you will enjoy discovering their earlier releases. Try this one on Tidal I prefer it to Hollow Bones ...
Steve
Already ordered .. I expect it in the mail tomorrow. Thanks.

Thanks Hook. Great drum solo start to "The Other One".
I'm continuing on with more Dead and another gift from the same friend. Also an early WB green label UK pressing on 3 LPs. More good stuff. Also enjoying wiki'ing the history of the LPs and how the band managed to continually preform live, write songs, and record in the studio. They have released a staggering 140+ albums. I wonder if anyone here has them all?

Played this yesterday evening before I went to sleep...

Many thanks to Quad 33 for urging the purchase of this CD (still cheap on the river site). Very unusual, varied and most enjoyable, only half way through it as I write but was compelled to thank Quad 33 for this left field recommendation.
* Edit. Just noticed that its available on Tidal for anyone wanting to try free.
Sorry Stevee for late reply glad you are enjoying David Lowe. You may be interested in this other CD of his equally as good if not better imo.

Hi Graham, I have finally got around to listening to your latest recommendation Dreamcatcher, it really is spectacular isn't it, irresistible beats, rhythms and vocals, cheery stuff. A couple of the Sheila Chandra Compositions (This Is The Time in particular) remind me of Baka Beyond (1993). Thanks again for pointing me at David Lowe.
Do try Baka Beyond's Spirit Of The Forest you may well enjoy it... available from the usual online retailer (used currently £1.52).
Best wishes

I should have added that Spirit of the Forest is available on Tidal.

First go at this one, interesting.

Pink Floyd. Atom Heart Mother (1970). On the first Capitol CD release from 1987. This one always intrigues me because despite being a studio album it sounds to me more like a film soundtrack than any of the band's dedicated movie albums.
Nerina Pallot, Year of the Wolf. Even though there is too much use of distortion on this album it's still full of great songs. Nerina Pallot is easily my favourite female artist and probably my favourite live act (possible exception of Rush in the earlier days), and she is a brilliant song writer. Flac via Audirvana/Hugo

(2015)
Pulsating desert rock, strong beats and rhythms drive the guitars on.

(16th July)
Why? Because I want something good to relax with. Chilled psychedelic electronica and dub, Androcell always manages a relaxed yet involving style. Downloaded from Bandcamp last week.
This CD from the excellent Back -Beats series..

Featuring music compiled from the archives of Columbia, Epic, Okeh, Philadelphia International, Buddah, RCA, Arista, Wand, Scepter, Musicor, Date, King, Dynamo, Look, Despenza, Garrison, Hollywood, Kudu, CTI, Ariola, Motor City, Invictus, Hot Wax, Music Merchant and Hi..
I had this on C-tape back in the days

but have not heard it in decades. I saw this today in the local shop and had to buy it – still a bit weird but nice at the same time.
(Original price tag £3.10 now 40€ – vinyl seems to keep its value quite nicely)
Rush, Power Windows, because I am working from home and have the house to myself which means I can crank this masterpiece up and really enjoy it. 24 bit Flac via Audirvana/Hugo

Playing ripped CD1 of 2. A collection of live concerts between 1968 and 1970 in Los Angeles, New York, Boston and Copenhagen. Well recorded and sounding very good indeed, The Doors in their prime and in the mood...

Released in 2013 two of Selsey Reflections' tracks were recorded back in the mid nineties and are quite experimental, enjoyable nonetheless.

Busy day today..........so, unwinding with some chilled dub.

In his 1971 Rolling Stone review of Refugee, Lester Bangs cited it, alongside Who’s Next, as a reason to keep believing in the magic and life force of rock & roll.
