2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread (and links to previous years) can be found here;
Finally I can write something about this. Wonderful record certainly IMHO up there with her best.
diVinyls. Eponymous fourth album on CD from 1991. A rockin' ass kicker from start to finish and Chrissy Amphlett's vocals evoke sexuality throughout .
Flagstad/Boult/Vienna Philharmonic: Mahler Kindertotenlieder 1957 recording
This is one of my favourite Mahler tune but it's so depressing so I don't listen to it quite often.
Flagstad’s voice is sad and full of anguish. She sounds literally weeping. A lonely clarinet trying to console. Boult’s orchestraion is subtle yet effective equally sensitive and work well with Flagstad’s rounded smooth tone. She brings the music for this sad lyrics even more painful. 2nd tune is a bit of a double take on Tristan und Isolde especially Flagstad’s vice reminds me of Isolde. Chromatic melody suggests a deep sigh and grief. The last verse of ‘In this Weather’ is most poignant where the voice and the music create a dichotomy between the underlying pain and somewhat positive spin on lyrics. The song ends with soft sound of celeste which reminds me of small angels flying up to the heaven.
Certainly Flagstad had a heavenly voice.
The Doors. The Soft Parade (1969). On the Bernie Grundman remastered vinyl from 2009. An underappreciated Doors album? I think so - it's rather eclectically original. The pressing is very good though BG may have taken liberties with the bass emphasis.
A great start of the Saturday. Nice to see that a Dutch violinist can play on this level...

As good as Car Wheels? Looks like I will have to get it then. I failed to get tickets for her current London performance, which was a mistake. Clive

Live in Plovdiv by The Steve Rothery Band
He composed alot of music just for this guitar festival in Plovdiv, however it turned out to be so good and so well received that he went on to turn it into the Ghosts of Pripyat album a year later. Very enjoyable gig, recommended.

Imprecari Island by Barrows
Once again more heavy instrumental rock from Barrows on their debut album, not as good as their stunning second album Red Giant.
On vinyl
And now this great live blues album.

Playing the first side of Nightwishs' double album. Symphonic rock meets goth metal, quite good fun when your in the mood for it.
