What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XII)

2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread (and links to previous years) can be found here;
Based on an earlier post, an enjoyable album....

Crosby, Stills and Nash, Greatest Hits, mainly for Cathedral which I have loved since the very first time I heard it. Flac via Audirvana/Hugo
Dylan -The Cutting Edge 65/66 - great to hear the different arrangements of some amazing songs

Graham Nash was literally flying when he thought of the song on visit to the Cathedral as he was high on LSD at the time.

Nirvana. Live At Reading. On CD from 2009. Earlier today I was treated to a splendid afternoon in the hub of down town Seattle where I met for the first time a forum friend and his wife travelling all the way from Alabama to an Alaskan cruise ship that departs from the Emerald City. Wonderful discussions of our similar music interests and Naim systems ensued. This album was one of our topics. Thanks Larry for a truly memorable day!
You are most welcome Joe. Thank you for taking the time to show us beautiful Seattle.
Larry

Velvet Revolver, Contraband, because it rocks like a mad thing and worth the entrance fee just for Slither and Fall to Pieces which are as good as anything GnR ever did. Flac via Audirana/Hugo played damned loud!

Not something I would propose but it's surprising how much stunningly good music was written, and sometimes performed, under the influence of one substance or another. It's a beautiful song with an edge to it.

People and Places, vol 3, from this box set, which I can highly recommend.

Creative Algerian pianist shows that he hasn't lost his touch of improvisation at the age of 77.

I was playing vol 1 last night, really great set to chill to

Very much agree, dayjay, though I've just realised that People & Places is vol 2, not 3. Doh.
Listened to this before my workout. It's perhaps not exciting but better than what I would have expected with Dave Brubeck....

Using Tidal now a bit more, this is great modern jazz trio music, an absolute recommendation and I will get their music...

Had stayed away from this as I don't like Kurt Elling so much, but I have to say a good quality album...

These guys are defining funk in a new format, enjoyable...

Dire Straits - Communique - my original copy of this bought on release way back, was pretty awful quality with poor dynamic range and no life, to the point where the poor quality spoiled what I knew was a good album. Disappointing after the Dire Straits album which was excellent quality. This heavy vinyl version brings the album to life, and it's now probably my second favourite Dire Straits album after the debut one
Harry Allen is probably my favourite current sax player. This is his latest album, just released on Trio. It's straight jazz, but none the worse for that. Beautifully played and recorded, and highly recommended.

Original uk vinyl

Released in April, typical Manu Katche, but very enjoyable

A blast-from-the-past. Reproduction quality is rather flat but the full length title track makes up for it.
