2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread (and links to previous years) can be found here;
UK first press on Ralph, through Pre. Not at all commercial, of course, but it does contain 40 one-minute songs. ![]()

Music by Darkroom chosen by filmmaker Chris Marsh for his sci-fi short Rhombus. Centred around recordings from the 2013 London Loopfest, it also features tracks produced in collaboration with Flamencamericana guitarist Daryl Shawn.

Sara Watkins - "Young In All The Wrong Ways" (2016)
Japanese Polystar/ZTT vinyl pressing from 1985. Most 80s music, with the exception of a few greats like New Order or the Smiths, has dated badly, but this monumental piece of 1980s Basing Street bombast (produced by Steve Lipson, not Trevor Horn, as is often supposed) sounds utterly magnificent. And of course, "Dream Wthin A Dream", voiced by the lovely Susanne Freytag, is one of the single greatest pieces in the history of music:

Vinyl - Good stuff !

Gods of the Earth by The Sword
(2008)
Powerful driving metal with light shades of some early Deep Purple heavy riffs, jolly good
.

Jeff Crosby - "Waking Days" (2015) Having departed from Jerry Joseph & the Jackmormons, this is Jeff's 2015 release.

Not sure why I've waited so long to get this record, certainly not overexposure to these works but probably the feeling that Viktoria Mullova's 1990s record remains a pinnacle, but Hyperion's July discount gave me the push to buy the download, and I'm glad I did! The period instrumentation gives an edge and excitement to these works, and Ibragimova must be Hyperion's hottest property at the moment, and shows why with a sinewy, almost vibratoless tone that nevertheless suggests a million colours.
Cheers,
EJ

As you can guess it was a kinda Joe Henry day in the house.

Ewen, are you able to comment on this release? I have a chance to go see them in October, or I might opt for Sara Watkins in September. Can't do both. I like Joe and Billy but the price is pretty steep and when I saw Joe back in 2002 he played a longer set at the record store promo than he did at his show. I love Joe's music but not sure about his work as a live performer, he had no interaction with the audience at either set in '02 and seemed cold, distant and "on the clock". I could see Sara and all her local friends playing for hours at half the price. Any input if you are permitted. best, Jeff A

Can you please tell what the music/performer(s) is - cannot read titles on my monitor ???
Thanks
Al
It is Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Cassidy from Jefferson Airplane, the name of this "project" was Hot Tuna and this was their initial release way back when. Jeff A

Tull's first. I'm always struck me how different the style is compared to the successive albums Stand Up and Benefit. This is quite bluesy. The influence of the then lead guitar of Mick Abrahams, I guess. Dharma For One and Song For Jeffrey are my favourite songs from this album.

Their excellent third studio album, this one remastered and re-issued in '03 includes 3 live bonus tracks from BBC 1 Sessions with Soldier playing to an extended 15 minutes.

A terrific album. I was spell-bound by when it first came out. Anti-establishment stuff!

2016 - Tidal...

Continuing with the blues mood.................... "proper" R 'n B.
I can still recall the buzz of hearing "High-Heel Sneakers" for the first time, as a mere youth..................still an all time classic today. ![]()
