George Harrison. All Things Must Pass (1970). Remastered 2CD set from 2001. I'm always grateful George was able to rework the master tapes before his death, adding his personal resolution and clarity to what was already a masterpiece.
The 3 best versions I have heard are the original Japanese cd mastering of the album, the unreleased DCC version and the Hi res version from 2010 that was only available on George's own web site for a short time.
Thanks for your reply ewe. Looking at the DR database I see that the 2001 CD release has rather low DR relative to the 2010 downloads. The 2014 CDs have DR similar to the 2001 CD. I have the original 1987 CDs which show good DR but suffer from the wall of sound mix, as does my original vinyl. So what's a physical media guy to do? Torrent download the 2010 hi-res and rip to CD? Or simply suffer in the dregs of legal sub-optimal SQ
Just a little away from the olympics...

Neil Young. Mirror Ball. On HDCD from 1995. The godfather of grunge meets one of the gods of grunge (Pearl Jam) and the output is expectedly goddamned good!

Always pleasant...

Suffer as the 2010 mix has long been deleted and is difficult to find.

Can now understand why I didn't buy yet on initial first listen of the first two numbers. But it does as well have a level of beauty....

2014 - Original vinyl... Good unpretentious prog/psyche band of late that I really enjoy. They don't try to sound like or copy some dead bands of the 70's. A hint of Soft Machine and KC but its their onw music. Great guitar work.

Dire Straits. Making Movies. On original vinyl from 1980. Only seven songs here but plays as an entirely fulfilling album.
Only very recently realised that I have never bought a CD version of this to replace the vinyl I used to have. Doh! Order promptly placed to correct this error.

1968 - Orignal vinyl...

No real reason needed this is a superb album of the Dan men live, superb sound and recording quality, as ever the "Steely Dan Orchestra" is as tight as a gnats...
