What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XII)

2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread (and links to previous years) can be found here;
Latest from the Tragically Hip, Man Machine Poem.
Because last show they will ever do is next weekend and will be broadcast live and in full on the CBC (TV and Radio). Gord Downie, the lead singer, has been diagnosed with Terminal Brain Cancer and the farewell tour ends next weekend.

Mad Season-Above
one of my favorites
The Staves - If I Was
A gentle start to a day off, with coffee. I like the band's rise and fall on this record. Perfect match for the time of day.

The second of what is to be Colin Blake's trilogy, ambient electronic and sci-fi in style, Downloaded from and listenable to on Bandcamp here.
Here’s what Colin said about Hope at the time he sent the files over [to the waag label]:
“Side 1 is called “Hope for Humanity (hope-LESS to hope-FULL)”. The track is in 6 parts:
1) hopeless - what I tried to do was convey when a personal situation starts to become hopeless.
2) the despair reached at the bottom of a hopeless situation then, near the end of 2nd part, the first feelings of hope … this is followed by ...
3) a short arp sequence as these feelings become true.
4) the main piano based section … when hope becomes reality ... the middle part a lapse, then the paino reaffirms hope.
5) like a ancient ocean euphoria, like waves washes over the human
6) final short part fades … I left the ending like that to let the listener decide if hope is found or not.
Side 2 is called "Hope for our World (Earth and Heaven)” … it is made up of two long parts in a kind of call and response:
1) a call/plea of hope for all living things on the planet.
2) a response from the heavens … this I have tried to do in a choral piece.
Side 2 can also be a continuation of side 1 … resolving hope in man."
Vinyl. From the deluxe box set:

Still a great album - the music shines brightly through the slightly opaque recording quality.
The best album (released January 1989) from the best band of the 1980s. The sound quality - especially the bass - of this UK first pressing (Factory FACT 275) is incredible... that's recording Technique
Discovered via Dermot O'Leary's show on Radio 2 a few weeks back.
A tad lo-fi in its production which actually suits the album nicely, she has a beautiful voice and and this is a great debut album

What is this album?
@RAGHUV
It's Technique, by New Order. You can usually tell NO albums because they often don't have a title or the name of the band on the cover. ![]()

Sublime music making.

Side one played, now on to the second, the woman and band that finally broke down my resistance to bluegrass.

Percy and Alison, lovely, who'd have thought it forty or so years ago...

Why? It was time to blow the dust off an aged prog LP.
