What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XII)

2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread (and links to previous years) can be found here;
Billy Squier. Don't Say No. On original vinyl from 1983. Brilliant album though my pressing has a thin, fatiguing sound. Anyone heard the 2011 vinyl remaster and care to comment?

I won this in a raffle in 1983 and took it home not expecting much...it's a great album and the original vinyl sounded good I recall. Can't help on the reissue though, sorry.

Mainly to listen to one of my favourite singles Paint it Black several times... the whole album in particular "side one" is very good and stands the test of time pretty well. The sound quality on this 1986 reissued and well remastered ABKCO label CD are good.
Well recorded live Blues album.
This is a great duo album...

I think Aftermath is great but surely this is the proper version! Clive

Hi Clive, yes you are totally right. ABKCO for some strange reason swapped out the correct track 1. Mothers little helper with Paint it Black and reordered most of the rest of side two swapping out some of the original and correct tracks for others. I have checked on discogs but have found no reason why this was done. Rather strange that is was done at all and it was only the ABKCO label who did it from what I can see.

Hi Steve
The ABKCO version is the US release - the Stones had variations between the US and UK for several years just like the Beatles. I think this was partly to do with catching up with the UK releases (probably more so with the Beatles), but more significantly because the American public expected LPs to contain the current hits. Eventually the variations between the markets ended. Clive
I see the reason now. This particular version of Aftermath was the U.S. version where they seem to have preferred Paint it Black as the opener rather than the UK release with Mothers Little Helper.

Hi Clive our postings just crossed.

Ineffable Mysteries from Shpongleland by Shpongle
More of Simon Posford and Raja Ram's excellent psychedelic electronic.
Yet another brilliant musician and singer taken from us prematurely.

Has it been made legitimately with Sony involvement, or perhaps by Music on Vinyl? Not that I need another copy of this!
Clive
Apparently for all of them they have"...gone back to the master tapes .... and re-released on 180g virgin vinyl"
It sounded mighty good to me and worth the punt at £4.99
Richard
Thanks, Richard - I found the Hoffman thread in the interim and see you have posted there too - unless someone else has stolen your username! I might get the Coltrane which is up next as I don't have that on vinyl.
Clive
Where are these being sold?
Thanks,
Clive
Think I have 7 copies of the album, original Japanese, sacd, mono, hd tracks amongst them

Coincidentally I was playing this simultaneously with yourself...The 'proper version'!

Seen this recommended on the forum a few times. Not normally my type of thing but I've been playing it quite a lot on the Muso and now through the SU. Sounds very nice on both - good production.
LP bought with my first pay packet working a summer job at Boots in 1971.
Quite enjoyable...
Vinyl...
Mono vinyl rom the most recent box set.
If you like Mike Oldfields Tubular Bells, Hergest Ridge, Ommadawn....., you will also like this - it could have been created by Mike in his earlier years...
