What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XII)

2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread (and links to previous years) can be found here;

Following yesterday's Plant session, and prompted by TONY2011's Zep suggestion above, here's the remastered version of the original album................a huge improvement in SQ over it's predecessor.

2014 - Tidal Deluxe...
Although I have the original, there is something really rather fascinating listening to No Quarter Percy's voice on this Deluxe version of this release. Poignant and harrowing along with The Rain Song, it reflects the mood of the band during that period before the tragic passing of Plant's son, pictured on the cover. JPJ playing is just sublime.
Thanks for pointing this one out Tony - really great sounding stripped down versions of some of my favourite Zep songs. Bonhams drums sound like they are in my living room. Cheers N.
Neil Young - After The Gold Rush, streaming from the HDX. Long time since I played. Nice music well worth spending the time to get to know. Think it might be a Young afternoon!!

Vinyl - An oldie (1964) - some good tracks on this !

Majesterial. 'Nuff said. Anyone thinking about a DR amp...You get free transportation back to California thrown in.

That's an interesting observation Dave, I'll have to pick up this remastered version.

If you do, don't bin the old one, as the tracks are slightly different. ![]()
"Thank You" has gone, to be replaced by "The Rain Song"

Maintaining the Zep / Plant groove this afternoon, here's Planty, again following his voyage of discovery into pastures new.

I certainly wouldn't bin the original but its looking as though the remaster is going to be difficult to get for a sensible price (via the usual sources) so unfortunately I will put it on hold for now.

Giving this one a spin myself. Can't believe how I used to hate his music as a teen and now he's one of my favorites.
Harvest followed by Harvest Moon both steaming from HDX during a lazy Sunday afternoon

Final one from me on the Zep / Plant fest.........................some great tunes, as Robert re-invents himself yet again.
Professor Longhair - Live in Chicago

2016 CD
Recorded at the University of Chicago Folk Festival, February 1, 1976.
Originally Broadcast on WFMT-FM Chicago
First listen. Can't have too many "Big Chief" recordings.
Good quality recording, energetic performance. There seems to be more FM broadcast releases in the past year or two, of varying quality. This is one of the better ones I have.
A2+ | Transcoded DSD

(1994)
A pleasant 'stroll' with some Seger hits.
Bert Schurink posted:Had this one earlier this afternoon. Another concept album of this progressive rock / art rock band from Germany. I am still amazed that they didn't have the fame of some off the other bands in the genre, there music and lyrics and concepts are definitely on a high level. This album, not their best effort is another fine testimony of their good music....
If you are interested or intrigued by my test have an initial listen into their best album Posthumous Silence in full. It's one of the best progressive rock albums ever.....
Just listened to this ' streaming..Really good
Smashing Pumpkins-Gish

Double CD - at his best (24/11/1985)
A2+ | Tidal

I've not listened to this one before and its good, very punchy, more in the hard rock mould than their jazzy early beginnings, recorded in Nottingham everyone seems to be having a fine time.
Bob Marley&The Wailers-Catch a Fire
Unbelievably mellow and beautiful for a Sunday night.
Really enjoyed listening to this again....

Lynyrd Skynyrd, pronounced Lynyrd Skynyrd, on original vinyl. Putting some time on a new cartridge and this album just rocks, one of the best debut albums ever imho.

Great suggestion! Playing it now.
On s/h Starline vinyl:

Why? I fancied a bit of Floyd and this caught my eye. (A useless piece of information, Interstellar Overdrive was my theme tune when I was a hospital radio DJ in the early 1970s)
