Just excellent.

Mark Knopfler. Sailing To Philadelphia. On HDCD from 2000. Earlier this year I fell in love with the Knopfler/Harris collaboration on "All The Roadrunning". Since then I've tried "Shangri-La", "Get Lucky" & "Kill To Get Crimson" but found those a bit too genteel for my rock taste. This one - STP - is quite enjoyable, even on first listen . Maybe more of that familiar Dire Straits sound, and you can't go wrong with contributions from JT and the Belfast Cowboy.

Small Faces. 78 In The Shade. On vinyl from 1978. I found this recently in a shop, still sealed. After 38 years I thought someone ought to liberate the LP and see what might be appreciated. It's a decent album, maybe a reunion of sorts and Jimmy McColloch (of Wings fame) contributes lead guitar. Very reminiscent of the band's earlier sound but with better SQ than they had during the Immediate Years. No regrets having laid down $7 for it.

Rush. Fly By Night. On original vinyl from 1973. I've always known this was a great album and have been searching for a long while for a decent looking LP. Finally came across one on vacation and it exceeds my expectations. Superb SQ, very pleased.

A+ | Transcoded DSD

(2000)

Ambient Berlin school style soundscapes mixed with some drone from a band that produced some good music over their short lifespan of four albums.

Meat Puppets. Too High To Die. On CD from 1994. On one hand its upbeat alternative with a sprinkling of cowpunk, on the other hand it has a dark, swampy, bluesy bend. Makes for a fantastic album with a tight, accomplished sound and plenty of PRaT. Highly recommended if you enjoy getting your toe a tappin'.

IMHO his best work yet. Been following his progress since his Father sent me copies of his first 2 ep's before he signed to Blue Note way back when. He has always had the voice but think he is finally finding his niche.

A little more of Appliance's style this one is a full length album of about an hour, their others are just half an hour but no worse for that.

Red Hot Chili Peppers. Freaky Styley. On CD from 1985. I don't have much from the early Peppers, so this, their second album is an interesting first listen. Funky, rappy, tight and fun, but a more developed sophistication in their music was yet to come - along with increasing loudness mastering.

I should run this one a bit more often, great chamber music concert...

Now listening to this newer recording via Tidal. Very delicate, it doesn't beat Maria or Mitsuki, but it's a nice one...

Gorgeous album. IIRC this was done in conjunction with Rega with some of Terry Bateman's electronics magic used in the minimal (analogue) recording chain

Love that band. Check out some of the earlier work. Not as pop sounding. Crazy lyrics and talented guitarists. Not force drying but I like it.

Jean Michel Jarre, The Essential,  Enough of the good stuff to be interesting but without the boredom that a full album brings (for me anyway) Vinyl

The Human League, Dare.  Because I have just found it hiding, sheepishly, at the back of the rack surrounded by heavy rock and metal albums.  And it's actually very enjoyable if slightly dated to listen to.  A guilty pleasure.  Original vinyl.
