2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread (and links to previous years) can be found here;

Needs more cowbells.

Mighty Sam McClain - "Give It Up To Love" (1992)
Lindisfarne - Fog On The Tyne - on original vinyl. For me one of the greatest albums ever!
Since when did Antonio ĺeave naim.
Antonio Forcione Sketches of Africa (Antastic Ltd) CD
He has been with a few others, Sol, Virgin, JazzPoint & Inspiration, but mostly & most recently with Naim. The big difference is he is Antastic Ltd & is listed as the only company director so it looks like he's gone out on his own.

Great voice. Has she and Morrissey ever considering doing a duet?
Fado and The Smiths music have a lot in common theme wise. ![]()
Hope you're on your way to full recovery.

Tony

Has he? Always thought extremely overrated! But, whatever makes you tick!

Following my last shout, above, I seem to be in a Gary frame of mind this afternoon.
The Iive album alone is really a must and that Frank Maddock cover is just superb. Great album!

Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells
Great memories listening to this with my Dad when I was 13. Still a favourite today and always will be.
On Vinyl today as it was back then
Funny enough, I was going through a box set of mr Oldfield this week and although I tried as hard as I could, I can only ever listen to the last ten minutes of side one. Always remember having a little fun with Stu a while ago about this album. Hope he is well wherever he is. ![]()

For me, Antonio Forcione is one of the most gifted acoustic guitarists. I have most of his albums but I think the 'Live' album really shows off his skill and musicianship. Don't know if you have a streamer but the 'Live' album is on Tidal. Tony2011, give this one a whirl before you finally write off this wonderful artist as 'extremely overrated'. If, after a listen to this, you still feel the same then I do of course accept we are all different with different tastes.
Boy, I wish I could play the guitar like Mr Forcione, I would be very a happy bunny.

Hi Nigel, I have streamed, Tidal HF, most of Mr Forcione's music and sadly I'm not engulfed by his music and his playing abilities. There's no soul, no oomph in his playing. Anyone can play an acoustic guitar but very feel can actually make it "soulful" if you know what I mean. There is something missing when he "plays".
Not for me, I'm afraid. Sorry!

Saxophone Colossus is a studio album by American jazz saxophonist Sonny Rollins. It was recorded on June 22, 1956, with producers Bob Weinstock and Rudy Van Gelder at the latter's studio in Hackensack, New Jersey. Rollins led a quartet on the album that included pianist Tommy Flanagan, bassist Doug Watkins, and drummer Max Roach. Saxophone Colossus was released later that year by Prestige Records to critical success and helped establish Rollins as a prominent jazz artist.

Stone Temple Pilots. Core. On CD from 1992. First listen. Rock solid album with plenty of energy. Many familiar old tracks that take me back to my FM radio listening when I moved to Seattle in the mid-90s.

What a record! If ever an album has to be heard as an album, and not just cherry-picked for a playlist, this is it. I mean, Miss You is not even the best track.
+1. My favorite Stones album and any individual track is quite good. "Far Away Eyes" the standout tack for me. Always loved Mick's effort at a southern country accent while still retaining his cockney/mockney.
A+ | Transcoded DSD

(1984)
This particular CD has 57 minutes worth of music (3 pieces) extracted from their iconic Warsaw concert.

+1. You can never have too much cowbell and I see that along with the handclap as the most overlooked yet highly effective simple instrument for PRaT in modern recording. Even better when you add some echo. They seem to have gotten lost and I wish we heard more of them these days.
Serious response, and I got your original intent ...

Nice start of a nice Sunday....

Be-Bop Deluxe - Drastic Plastic

Steely Dan. Two Against Nature. On CD from 2000. First listen. Superb SQ, obviously technically accomplished, and I can fully appreciate the album in that regard. From a SD perspective it's more soft-jazzy and less pop-rocky than their previous offerings, so I come away with the feeling of a musically mushy, perhaps wandering album.

Terrific dynamic range on this recording.

Sometimes the improvisation take long, so wouldn't listen to it all in one go, but what a document....
