What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XII)

2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread (and links to previous years) can be found here;
First listens. Earlier:

(2016) CD
This is the first time I have heard Toussaint's work. Nice piano to start off the day.

(2016) CD
Now:

(1997) CD
"Summertime" really stands out so far. Very enjoyable.
For some reason, I had a hankering for some Hendrix, before the neighbours get back. So out comes this 1980 Japanese pressing...

Scorpions - Lovedrive
U2-The Joshua Tree
First run for this which arrived a couple of days ago. Have a few of their other albums - so far, more mellow in comparison. CD rip.

Kevin-W posted:After the high gloss of Quincy, something a bit more gritty. Superb 2015 debut from spiky Aussie songstrel:
Hi Kevin,
If you like this one, you should check out 'The Double EP: A Sea of Split Peas'. First time I heard "Avant Gardener" on the radio, I was hooked.

Rachel Grimes - Book of Leaves
Solo piano, recommended to me by my friend Max. To quote him: "luminous playing". Glorious, and with birdsong too, as if through an open window.
C.

Counting Crows - "Somewhere Under Wonderland" (2014)

Thanks Pat, will check that out.

Hollow Meadows. Richard Hawley

1997. CD rip. Been a while since I dug this out. Can't beat a bit of oud now and again.

Needs more cowbells.
+1. You can never have too much cowbell and I see that along with the handclap as the most overlooked yet highly effective simple instrument for PRaT in modern recording. Even better when you add some echo. They seem to have gotten lost and I wish we heard more of them these days.
Serious response, and I got your original intent ...
Ewen and joerand, I saw BOC back in the mid-seventies at the Akron Civic Theatre. Opening band ? The original four-piece Michael Stanley Band. Always thought the was a strange billing but it was a fun night of music forty years ago (really?) Jeff A
ps. joerand, any speaker updates ?

Matchbox 20 - "Yourself Or Someone Like You" (1996) Always liked this album and the song "Back 2 Good" specifically.

Tidal. Last one this evening.

Some trax off their up and coming album due out Oct

Too funny. These guys are from here, SC, and were huge on the college scene while I was in school. No doubt they were going to blow up but I still can't believe just how big they did get. Darius has a great voice and is a very cool guy even if he is a Gamecock.
A+ | Tidal

(18th August)
First listen to their new one and liking it a lot.
Electric 80s, a really great collection of 80s electronic pop music which is great for a little nostalgic chilling. Flac via audirvana/Hugo
Brant Bjork-God and Goddesses
cool stoner rock vibe.

A mellow affair from 1997 with guitarists Pat Metheny and Bill Frisell joining drummer Joey Baron and bassist Marc Johnson.

Was it not the fastest selling album of time at that time. I would think that Adelle has probably surpassed that with one of her last 2 discs.

Hi Jeff,
In retrospect it's rather amazing to recount how popular the Michael Stanley Band was along the 'North Coast' in those days. Interesting billing with BOC as you say.
Speakers? Proac D20R are next on my demo list. Hope to get them home this month, but work is busy - which is a good thing.
