Dave Matthews Band  -  "Crash" (1996)  I will listen to the whole album, but be patiently waiting for the last track - Proudest Monkey.  Good stuff, all of it.

Led Zeppelin. Physical Graffiti (1975). On 2CD from the 1993 Complete Studio Recordings box set. A nice cold, hard slap of blues-driven rock. Something to get the blood flowing.

Daniele Gatti's new post as chief of the Concertgebouw will be made official tonight, with a varied program including Mahler's Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen (with Gerhaher) and Respighi's Fontane di Roma (a sonic spectacular). This new recording of the Symphonie Fantastique was taped at three concerts in March/April this year. Broadcasts have been available for free for a while, but RCO Live now presents a cleaned up edition, with all applause and most audience noise edited out, and of course a sound quality that goes far beyond what youtube has to offer. As a performance, its unusually broad in conception, with a 'singery' quality I haven't heard in Amsterdam before and would attribute to Gatti. I very much look forward to his posting here, after a disappointingly grey period with Jansons (personal view - not shared by many).

Cheers,

EJ
